Asian Pride is a community-driven organisation dedicated to celebrating and supporting the Asian LGBTQ+ community in the Netherlands, Europe, and beyond. We strive for increased visibility, representation, and engagement of the stories, diverse cultures, and identities within our community, to empower and stand in solidarity with our members. Through hosting events during Pride Amsterdam celebrations, as well as other times throughout the year, we provide platforms for expression and dialogue that facilitate inclusivity and understanding. Join us in our mission to uplift and celebrate the richness of Asian LGBTQ+ identities.

This panel brings together five leaders whose advocacy spans continents, showing that Asian LGBTQIA+ movements are not confined to any one country or community.

Mei-Ying Juan of the Taiwan Tongzhi (LGBTQ+) Hotline Association connects grassroots social work with corporate partnerships to advance workplace equality.

Kyoka Shodladd, a TIME100 Next honoree and founder of Q***ring Bangkok, is building the Asian Pride Alliance to unite Q***r Asian communities worldwide, including diaspora networks far from home.

Koko Tiamsai, Co-President of InterPride, brings a scholar’s lens to identity and belonging across Asia and the Global South.

Vickky Noppasorn Sitthiwetch, Co-Founder and Chairperson of Phuket Pride, has spent 17 years turning local organizing in Thailand into international influence.

Horim Yi, Co-Executive Director of Rainbow Action Korea, leads the fight for marriage equality across Korea and East Asia.

Together, they’ll explore what it means to build q***r solidarity across borders, languages, and political systems — and how Asian and diaspora communities are shaping the future of the global Pride movement.

In Qeluar, the UK’s first LGBTQ asylum recipient looks back on expulsion from Malaysia and the long, complicated path toward safety and belonging ✈️

Harmony follows a grieving composer who unexpectedly joins a movement therapy workshop, slowly finding healing through the language of the body 🎶

In A Place to Belong, a transgender elder in Myanmar runs a beauty salon that becomes a refuge for young trans s*x workers searching for care and community💄

LeLaLes: Fluid Love invites us into a Chiang Mai villa where eight q***r Chinese women live, date and take emotional risks together, blending reality TV structure with documentary intimacy 💕

And LATER follows Lionel, from Hindustani Surinamese descent, as he reflects on identity, belonging and the experiences that have shaped his life, exploring resilience, self‑discovery and the need to be seen and accepted for who you are ✨

Today we hold Berlin’s q***r community close and refuse to accept that violence is the price of being visible. Our fight for safety, dignity and celebration is shared across borders, from Amsterdam to Berlin and beyond.

✨ Happy International Drag Day! ✨

Drag is more than performance. It is artistry, community, resistance, and joy. For decades, drag artists have helped shape LGBTQIA+ communities, challenged expectations, and inspired generations to live more authentically.

This year, we’re proud to have 5 incredible Asian drag queens joining our Asian Pride boat for the WorldPride Amsterdam Canal Parade on 1 August. Each brings their own unique creativity, energy and unapologetic Pride to our celebration.

Meet and hear the inspiration behind the look

Malaysia is woven into who I am. I was born and raised there, and although I moved abroad when I was 14, it remains the setting for some of my most precious memories of childhood, family and home. So when I began sketching this look around the theme of gold, I immediately wanted to explore my Chinese-Malaysian heritage 🇲🇾

The jacket is inspired by the durian, the king of fruits. Some of my fondest childhood memories are of going with my family to buy durians from roadside stalls. My dad would open them in the courtyard, and we would all sit together and eat. Afterwards, we would drink water from the empty shells because durian is considered “heaty.” In many ways, durian symbolises my childhood and a simpler time, when home was my parents, my siblings and all of us together. For the jacket’s silhouette and spikes, we drew inspiration from Guo Pei’s 2010 One Thousand and Two Nights collection.

The main body of the dress is inspired by the yuanbao (元寶), the gold ingots once used as currency in imperial China and now associated with wealth and prosperity. To me, the yuanbao also symbolises Lunar New Year: abundance, family and 团圆 (tuányuán)… the reunion and being together with your loved ones.

Together, the durian and yuanbao tell the story of my Chinese-Malaysian heritage. They represent childhood and the feeling of ‘home’. After all, Malaysia will always be home to me 🇲🇾🫶

Rhadem Camlian Morados (Rhadem Musawah), publicly known as Rhadem Musawah, is a Moro Muslim human rights advocate and award‑winning documentary filmmaker from the Philippines. For over ten years he has led intersectional human rights and inclusive development programs, defending marginalized communities in Mindanao, working on economic empowerment for women and Indigenous peoples, policy advocacy for the LGBTQIA+ community, climate justice for the poorest, and mental health care for orphaned children and women in prison. His work has been recognised globally, including honours from the United Nations, APCOM Hero Awards and the Philippine Commission on Human Rights, all reflecting a life dedicated to justice and dignity.

In Honorable, Rhadem turns his lens on two transgender leaders who run for public office in a country where q***r and trans culture is highly visible yet still denied equal protection. Their campaigns become a battle over who is allowed to serve, who is seen as worthy, and who gets to be called “honorable,” inviting us into an urgent, intimate story of courage and political possibility. 🎬🌈

Join us at Asian Pride Cinema for the Dutch premiere of Honorable, followed by a live Q&A with director Rhadem Musawah. Alongside this documentary, we will screen more q***r Asian films that explore love, identity, family, migration and resilience across Asia and its diaspora.
