Dolle Mina, waar komt die naam toch eigenlijk vandaan?

De naam verwijst naar Wilhelmina Drucker, een van de eerste feministen van Nederland. In de jaren ’70 eigenden feministen haar naam zich toe als geuzennaam voor hun strijd voor gelijkwaardigheid.

In onze nieuwste audiowandeling Een Vrouwelijk Geluid nemen vrouwen van verschillende generaties je mee naar het standbeeld van Wilhelmina Drucker. Onderweg delen zij hun verhalen over hun levens, hun strijd en de ruimte die vrouwen nog altijd moeten bevechten in de publieke ruimte.

Tekst van stoeptegel onder het monument:
Wilhelmina Drucker (1847 - 1925) was de invloedrijkste feministe die Nederland heeft gekend. In 1889 richtte ze de Vrije Vrouwenvereeniging op. Dit was het begin van de georganiseerde vrouwenbeweging. Ze streed voor gelijke rechten voor mannen en vrouwen op alle terreinen: politiek, arbeid, onderwijs, huwelijk en seksuele moraal. Ze richtte het feministische tijdschrift Evolutie op en nam het initiatief tot veel andere vrouwen-organisaties, waaronder de Vereeniging voor Vrouwenkiesrecht. Het vrouwenkiesrecht werd in 1919 ingevoerd. maar voor Drucker was dat nooit het belangrijkste doel. Dat was de economische zelfstandigheid van vrouwen, ongeacht klasse, moederschap of burgerlijke staat. Dat doel is honderd jaar na haar dood nog altijd niet bereikt, maar haar gedachtegoed leeft voort.

This is one of the rare wild places in an overcultivated country that is the Netherlands. How does it sound in this time of the year? Listen to a rare live audio stream from the salt marshes at the Groninger Wadden Sea coast next weekend.

What to expect? A multitude of different bird species forage on the large mudflats of the Wadden Sea, which are inundated twice a day. At high tide, they all seek refuge in higher areas of the salt marches. Our live stream, placed precisely in one of these areas, gives you the chance to hear the gathering of the birds from your home. Be sure to listen at night when the birds are especially vocal. There are also fewer mechanical sounds at night, such as those from ferries, fishing boats, and activities at the nearby military training area.

This stream is part of radio.earth, a participatory radio art project concerning the ecological crisis, its effects on our environment and on the possibilities for action. The project aims to establish a network of collaboration between individuals and organisations interested and engaged in these subjects, with all their respective practices from art and science to activism.

How do you design a city that not only looks good but also sounds good?

The Sonic Inspiration Guide, published by Soundtrackcity, provides architects and planners with helpful ideas and methodologies to answer this question.

The guide challenges designers and planners to stop treating sound as a problem and to recognize its positive and powerful potential in creating inclusive spaces. Expect a rich collection of real-world examples, thought-provoking ideas, and concrete methods for anyone working on the built environment, including policymakers, architects, project managers, and engineers. The guide is the product of two years of intensive research, which was commissioned by the city of Rotterdam and the province of South Holland.
The open-access guide is published online and features a comprehensive overview of national and international best practices. Authorized English and German editions are in the works. https://sonicinspirationguide.org

De afgelopen maanden hebben we gewerkt aan Een Vrouwelijk Geluid, een project waarin vrouwen uit verschillende generaties met elkaar in gesprek gaan over hun leven in De Pijp en hun ervaringen als vrouw in de buurt.

De gesprekken tussen vijftien vrouwen leveren nu al een schat aan verhalen, herinneringen en geluiden op. Er werd gesproken over opgroeien in de rumoerige maar gezellige wijk, over actievoeren en vrouwenhuizen, over plekken die veiligheid boden en plekken die ’s nachts juist werden vermeden. Over het vertrouwde geluid van de kerkklokken, het kraken in de Ostadestraat, de Albert Cuypmarkt, de man met de mondharmonica en Peter met de stoffen.

Sommige herinneringen bleken heel persoonlijk, andere werden verrassend vaak gedeeld. Samen vormen ze een rijk en gelaagd portret van De Pijp door de ogen en oren van vrouwen.

Met deze verhalen maakt Renate Zentschnig voor Soundtrackcity een feministische audiowandeling waarin de positie van vrouwen in de publieke ruimte centraal staat. Componist Evelien van den Broek verwerkt stemmen, omgevingsgeluiden, liederen en zang tot een unieke geluidscompositie. Het resultaat wordt een audiowandeling die begint bij CC Amstel op het Dora Tamanaplein en eindigt bij het Wilhelmina Drucker monument aan de Churchilllaan. In september zal de wandeling in première gaan bij CC Amstel en de OBA.

We kijken ernaar uit om deze bijzondere stemmen en verhalen met jullie te delen.

SOUNDWALK SUNDAY 14 JUNE
An invitation to walk and listen – part two

After having gathered a group of curious listeners on Saturday, 30 May, Soundtrackcity would like to invite you to the second iteration of our soundwalk series around Berlin Westkreuz to tune into the sounds of fallow land and road/railway infrastructure. While Westkreuz is mostly known as a rail transport node in the West of Berlin which has come under pressure of large scale urban redevelopment, the pockets created by the crisscrossing of highways, roads, railway and metro tracks are home to a multitude of human and non-human beings whose precarious voices deserve to be heard. Some of these interstices are left to their own devices, while others are maintained by gardeners in an allotment community.

Guided by long-term visitor and listener Michiel Huijsman, we want to collectively inquire into the multitude of sonic thresholds created by the unique conditions at Westkreuz. We look forward to hearing (from) you. Sign up at: [email protected]
