Get to know the people & organisations behind the protest posters in WORLD PRi̶d̶e̶OTEST!

Flowers, not Bombs! highlights the importance of Article III of the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide (December 9, 1948).
is a material designer & visual artist. Maurits de Bruijn is a writer & editor of the books Man maakt stuk (2024), Geweten (2025).

Susanne Khalil Yusef, born in Germany, as the child of Palestinian refugees, makes immersive colourful installations combining different media such as murals, textile, ceramics and neon lights. Yusef’s work might seem lighthearted, but when taking a closer look it refers to distress and dangerous situations.

During the protests in 2022, Iranian schoolgirls waved their obligatory headscarves, chanted “Woman, Life, Freedom”, wrote protest slogans on school walls, trampled portraits of the dictator, and shared images of their resistance through social media. A few months later, those same schoolgirls were poisoned en masse. Tina Farifteh posters are an ode to the youngest who resisted.

Sanne Korswagen is an ecofeminist artist & designer. Themes such as q***r female rage and the exploitation of animals are central to her work. She expresses these themes in a fragile yet rebellious manner, not shying away from discomfort and welcoming intense emotions her work may evoke.

Anton Anton Shebetko is a Ukrainian artist, photographer, curator, & writer from Kyiv. The photo for the poster is taken from We Were Here (2018), a series depicting LGBTQIA+ veterans of the war in the Donbas, depicting the dual camouflage its heroes must wear, one in the army and the other in civilian life.

Here to Support forms partnerships working to equality in a structural unequal society. An equal society only exists if everyone in that society is recognised, has equal rights and all voices are heard. HtS works with undocumented people, to raise their position in society through art, design, lobby and media.

A brand new video work Bont en Blauw by Miles Dinjens joins WORLD PRi̶d̶e̶OTEST running till 23 Aug. Come over if you haven’t yet!

Miles Dinjens Miles Dinjens is an animation filmmaker, activist and socialist. He prefers to work on paper, using gouache and oil paint, risograph printing and acrylic paint, and, since starting this project, also with an airbrush. He creates three-dimensional works using wood, metal and ceramics. As an Armenian-Dutchman, Miles enjoys cycling and always misses the mountains.

Through his work, Miles aims to show the average Dutch person that they too can make a greater impact than they ever imagined. In his graduation project, Miles explores one of possible paths forward by interviewing two activists. Bont en Blauw is a video work about a world in which radical, systematic change is possible; a world in which we do not have to accept that genocide is being committed or oppression facilitated in our name.

Get to know the people and organisations behind the featured protest posters in WORLD PRi̶d̶e̶OTEST!

De Regenboog Groep Amsterdam helps people who get stuck with loneliness through debt, addiction, psychological problems or homelessness. Together with Patchwork Family and No Limits! Art Castle, we announce a protest boat during Pride to draw attention to q***r, homeless people, who do not have a safe place to sleep during the holidays, while others drink champagne. We call for a solidarity party and action for an inclusive city.

Sara Louise van Ketel writes poems that touch on a wide range of topics, including intimacy, emotions, and her life with Down syndrome. She created a poster in which she advocates for being seen for who she is. Stop making assumptions, talk to her to get to know her!

Working within and against institutional frameworks, Arash Fakhim investigates migration, labour, class and bicultural experience through material and social encounters. Arash Fakhim Esmaeilian is interested in overlooked objects, shared rituals and the social structures that shape who gains access to space, visibility and belonging.

The PIC Amsterdam fights the stigma associated with s*x work by providing accurate information from a s*xworker perspective. In the wake of policy leading to the closure of many windows and prevention of their reopening, s*x workers in Amsterdam call for the protection of their right to safe work spaces.

Alex Naber is a q***r artist, writer, poet, actress, dancer and rapper with Down syndrome. She wrote scripts for films and musicals, and the book ‘Alex is a girl’s name’, published in 2017.

‘They Tried to Make Us Invisible’ is a collaboration between Repro Uncensored and Taiwanese artist Stellina. Inspired by hundreds of censorship cases documented globally by Repro Uncensored, the poster reflects on how Big Tech platform governance increasingly shapes who gets to be visible, remembered, organize, and participate in public and democratic life.

Marten Mantel (1980) is a writer and creator of satire and memes within the magazine and online media world. In 2013 he published the sci-fi regional novel Invasie op het eiland, followed in 2018 by Aan het typen…, a book full of extremely bad advice for people with smartphone addiction. He currently works as a creative at Truus agency and publishes a weekly satirical image for Vrij Nederland.

This Pride is not ours. We want to return to the Pride of the past, where solidarity and protest took centre stage. Because there is now more to protest for than ever before. And every struggle is interconnected.

Marten hits where it hurts the most. Not because Amsterdam Pride isn’t important, but in fact more important than ever. And that’s where the critique is real. This poster begs the question ‘What do you stand for?’.

“Eigenlijk hoef ik die hele botenparade niet. Wij willen weer terug naar de tijd van de Stonewall-rellen”. zei Simomo Bouj, curator van WORLD PRi̶d̶e̶OTEST, in gesprek met de Volkskrant.

In haar artikel laat Anke Verbeek zien dat Pride in Nederland nooit een vanzelfsprekende geschiedenis van vooruitgang is geweest, maar een voortdurende wisselwerking tussen verzet en institutionalisering.

Zo blikt ze onder meer terug op de Roze Zaterdag van 1982 in Amersfoort, waar demonstranten werden uitgescholden en bekogeld met levende maden en eieren.

Tegelijkertijd deelt ze hoe de Amsterdamse Canal Parade in 1996 ontstond vanuit stadsmarketing, georganiseerd door de Gay Business Alliance, met oog op de vakantiegangers en het winkelpubliek.

Vanuit die frictie ontstond WORLD PRi̶d̶e̶OTEST. Niet uit nostalgie naar een ‘vroegere Pride’, maar vanuit de overtuiging dat Pride steeds opnieuw een plek moet worden waar solidariteit, kunst en activisme elkaar versterken. Omdat zichtbaarheid alleen niet genoeg is, en omdat er nu meer is om voor te protesteren dan ooit.

WORLD PRi̶d̶e̶OTEST is an exhibition that asks one simple question: What do you stand for?

Twenty-one artists, activists and collectives present protest posters on the struggles we cannot afford to forget during Pride. From genocide and decolonisation to trans liberation, s*x workers’ rights and disability justice. Together, they remind us that Pride began as a protest, and that every struggle is connected.

Alongside the posters, discover Hasret Arslan’s striking papier-mâché virus installation. Inspired by her concerns for world peace, each virus is named after an authoritarian world leader and coloured with the colours of their national flag, questioning how power can spread and harm like a virus.

The exhibition also unfolds beyond the gallery through three collaborations:
🪧 The Patchwork Family × Rambler Studios explore clothing as protest.
🪧 × SWARM - Dance Together on the Vibrant streets bring collective resistance into public space.
🪧 Jakoozidancespace × investigate the body as a site of autonomic resistance, pleasure and protection.

This exhibition only comes alive when it moves. Take a protest poster home for free and hang it in the city, or buy one as an artwork for €10. What leaves the exhibition returns as action.

✨ What a thrilling opening to WORLD PRi̶d̶e̶OTEST it was last Friday.

🪧Twentyone makers, activists and collectives came together to show what is important through their own protest posters, one virus art installation by Hasret Arslan, and three amazing collaborations between The Patchwork Family x Rambler Studios, x SWARM - Dance Together on the Vibrant streets, and Jakoozidancespace x .

💬During the opening, conversations with visitors revealed that some of the information on the posters was not widely known. All the more reason, then, not to forget that Pride is not just a month of celebrations, but also a month to reflect on the causes we are still fighting for! We want to return to the Pride of the past, where solidarity and protest took centre stage.

The visitor is just as important to the exhibition as the works themselves. What cause do you stand for today? We give you two options. You’re allowed to pick one poster for free, if you keep the promise to hang them in the city, and you can buy one poster as artwork for your home for only €10.

So, what are you waiting for? Come to the exhibition and bring one message into the city with us!
