Empowering tomorrow's entreptreneurs with social and financial skills for a fairer future. Aflatoun International offers social and financial education to millions of children and young people worldwide, empowering them to make positive change for a sustainable world. It turns dependence into independence by providing the next generation with the tools to run their own social and financial enterprises, like our very own success story Kojo's Bikes. Our young entrepreneur decided to turn his life around with one simple idea: renting out his bike and saving the money for his education. He now has four bikes and plans on having bike shops all across Africa one day. There are many Kojo's out there so in order to equip them all with the 21st century skills, we create high-quality curricula, for different age groups. These are implemented by local partners and can be contextualised to local needs and specific circumstances, like youth employment, girls' empowerment and peacebuilding. Our educational material proves to be effective: it is one of the most well-researched life skills and financial education programmes globally and has been increasingly recognised as successful and innovative by The Brookings Institution and Harvard Graduate School of Education alike. What does it mean to truly flourish?

At in , this question brought together changemakers from around the world to explore leadership, women's autonomy, education, innovation and the opportunities people need to shape their own futures.

Aflatoun International was pleased to contribute to these conversations through Rocio Pilar Andia, our Regional Manager for Latin America and the Caribbean.

The discussions reinforced something central to our work: when children and young people develop confidence, financial skills and the ability to make informed decisions, they gain valuable tools to shape their lives and contribute to their communities.

The Partner Resilience Package pilot continues in !

Following the workshop in Nairobi, Aflatoun International’s Partner Resilience Package pilot workshop has begun in Uganda, with eight Ugandan organisations taking part!

The workshop supports partners to explore different sources of income while keeping their mission and the communities they serve at the centre.

Participants are beginning with a closer look at their organisations’ finances, strengths and readiness. These reflections will help them consider which income opportunities suit their work and what they need before taking the next step.

Each organisation brings its own experience and context, creating space for practical discussions and learning from one another.

Yesterday marked . The commitment to girls’ rights continues every day.

This year’s theme, “End child marriage and invest in girls’ rights,” calls for support that helps girls stay in school and shape their futures.

At Aflatoun International, social and financial education connects understanding rights with practical skills for everyday decisions.

Our latest blog shares examples of this work:

In Ethiopia, Dilnesash Adisu applied lessons from Aflateen, delivered by Girls Gotta Run Foundation in partnership with Imagine1day Organization, to start a small business.

An evidence brief from World Vision International also highlights how Aflateen supports learning about relationships, gender expectations and financial choices.

In Egypt and Syria, Egyptians without Borders Foundation for Development and FADA Association | جمعية فضا للتنمية المجتمعية supported girls’ learning about online safety and digital protection.

Girls need opportunities to ask questions, express their views and influence the decisions that affect them.

The final day of Aflatoun International’s Partner Resilience Package pilot workshop in Nairobi, Kenya, brought partners’ income ideas closer to a practical test.

Teams examined whether their chosen ideas could work with the people, time and resources available. They considered costs, delivery and risks, then explored how to plan a small pilot with a clear budget, timeline and point to review progress.

For some organisations, the next step was to prepare a pilot. For others, it was to strengthen their systems or take a proposal back to their leaders. Each organisation worked from its own circumstances, keeping its mission and community trust at the centre.

The workshop ends today, but the learning continues through 90 days of mentoring, supporting partners as they take their next steps.

Day two of Aflatoun International’s Partner Resilience Package pilot workshop in Nairobi, Kenya, focused on how organisations can develop new sources of income while staying true to their mission.

Building on day one’s self-assessment, partners explored four practical steps:

• Leadership commitment: assessing whether their organisation is ready to proceed and what needs to be in place first.
• Mission and context: identifying income opportunities that fit their purpose, community needs and local environment.
• Opportunity identification: exploring where an unmet need, a potential paying customer and existing organisational strengths come together.
• Developing ideas: shaping and comparing possible products or services to identify a priority for further assessment.

These discussions helped partners connect income diversification with the leadership decisions and organisational preparation needed to make it sustainable.

How can organisations keep serving their communities when funding becomes uncertain?

Today marked the first day of Aflatoun International’s Partner Resilience Package pilot workshop, taking place in Nairobi, , from 7–9 October 2026.

Led by Aflatoun’s Education Specialist: Zunara Nauman, the sessions encouraged partners to take an honest look at how their organisations can sustain their work while protecting their mission and community trust.

Participants explored the risks of relying heavily on donor funding and learned from other organisations’ experiences: what worked, what did not, and why.

They also reflected on their own organisations’ strengths, gaps and current income sources, assessing how ready they are to explore additional ways of funding their work.

These discussions set the foundation for the coming days: identifying opportunities that fit each organisation’s mission and deciding how to test them safely.
