Dear IEC of The Gambia, we strongly condemns any form of involvement of children below the legally required age in voter registration and electoral processes. The use of minors in such activities is a serious violation of their rights and undermines the integrity and credibility of our democratic system. Children must be protected from political manipulation and exploitation at all times. Engaging underage individuals in voter registration exposes them to significant risks, including coercion, abuse, and other forms of rights violations. This practice is not only unethical but also unlawful. We remind all stakeholders that, under the laws of The Gambia, including the Elections Act and the Children’s Act 2005, it is prohibited to involve minors in activities that may harm their welfare or infringe upon their rights. Additionally, The Gambia is a signatory to international frameworks such as the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), which obligates the protection of children from exploitation and harmful practices. We therefore call on all relevant authorities, including law enforcement agencies, electoral officials, community leaders, and civil society organizations, to urgently investigate and address any instances of underage participation in voter registration. Those found responsible should be held accountable in accordance with the law. Protecting the rights and well-being of children is a collective responsibility, and safeguarding the integrity of our electoral process is essential for the future of our nation
