ECHO CLOSING SYMPOSIUM - Who Writes Europe’s Rules? 🌱🇪🇺

European sustainability laws like the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD) and the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) were designed to hold companies accountable for their impact on human rights and the climate.

But even before these laws are fully in force, parts of them are already being weakened or delayed. So what’s happening behind the scenes in Brussels? Who really shapes the rules?

During the ECHO Closing Symposium at , we dive into the world of lobbying, power and EU policymaking.

On the 26th of May (20:00) at Pakhuis de Zwijger, with:
- (Member of European Parliament)
- .in.brussels ()
- Jurjen van den Bergh ()

🤳 ONLINE SEMINAR: 23 OCTOBER 🤳

Are TikTok and Instagram algorithms deciding what we vote for?

How do the algorithms of the big social media platforms shape the way we stay informed, and how do they influence our opinions and emotions during elections?

This Thursday, we’re diving into these questions with three amazing journalists and researchers at the very first Resonance Online Seminar, bringing together voices from all across Europe. Join us to discuss how the digital future is being shaped, what’s at stake for our democracies and what we can do about it.

Speakers 🗣️
👉 Romanian journalist Răzvan Luţac from collective SNOOP, who uncovered the TikTok disinformation scandal during the Romanian elections
👉 Dutch Researcher Quirine van Eeden, who analyses the influence of social media platforms on the Dutch elections that are only days away
👉 Rejo Zenger from Dutch NGO Bits Of Freedom, who has recently successfully sued Meta for being the only one to decide what you see on your IG timeline

With 80% of young people in Europe getting their news through social media, staying informed has become easier than ever. But has it really? When controversy, outrage and anger are rewarded by the algorithm, are we really staying informed? Are elections free and fair when access to information is decided by an algorithm? 🗳️

In Romanian presidential elections last year, research journalist collective SNOOP discovered a wide-spread disinformation campaign through their development of an advanced AI-tool in which they analyzed thousands of Tiktok videos. What can we learn from AI-based tools as part of the solution? Our first guest speakers, Răzvan Luțac, co-founder of SNOOP, will take us along their investigation. 🔎

With Dutch elections just around the corner - we’ll dive deep into how algorithms influence elections in Europe, and what that means for us.

Join us in the conversation on our digital future and make your voice resonate across Europe.

🔊When? Thursday 23 October, 16.00-17.30 GMT+2
