Understanding the State of the World’s Volunteerism Through Data and Global Evidence
How can the real impact of volunteering be demonstrated through reliable data, and which indicators should institutions and policymakers use to understand volunteer contributions more effectively? For everyone interested in making volunteering more visible, measurable, and evidence-based, this webinar offers a timely and in-depth perspective.
United Nations Volunteers (UNV), as one of the leading global actors in advancing, recognizing, and strengthening volunteerism worldwide, provides an important international reference point for understanding how volunteering contributes to development, public services, and social transformation. Dr. Tapiwa Kamuruko, Chief of Volunteer Advisory Services Section, and Emiliya Asadova, Policy Specialist on Evidence at United Nations Volunteers (UNV), will explore how volunteering can be measured through both quantitative and qualitative methods in light of the 2026 World Volunteering Report.
The webinar will address why volunteering should be measured and how this can be done through hours, participation ratios, and economic value approaches, while also examining qualitative dimensions such as individual development, social trust, and solidarity. Participants will also be introduced to the GIVE (Global Index of Volunteer Engagement) framework and its four dimensions, as well as approaches to measuring volunteering during crises, disasters, and broader social transformation processes. Drawing on examples from different countries, the session will explain how volunteering can become a more visible, credible, and policy-relevant field.
Everyone who wants to better understand the global state of volunteerism and strengthen evidence-based approaches to volunteering is warmly invited to join this webinar.
The event will be held as a webinar within the framework of the 2026 International Volunteer Year in cooperation with TEMA.
It is open to everyone and completely free of charge, including a certificate of participation.
