Thaki. Unlock their potential

Thaki. Unlock their potential Thaki is a nonprofit working to empower refugee and vulnerable children through digital literacy. The concept is simple.

Refugee and disadvantaged children are missing out on their education and we want to help. Electronic devices, such as laptops, are often retired long before their productive life is over. Thaki collects such devices from corporations, institutions and individuals. Our approach is to load the devices with links to educational content and get them in the hands of young refugees with limited educati

onal resources. We distribute the computers to educational centers that work with refugee children, in addition to giving computers to older students, such as university scholarship students, who need a computer to support their learning. Thaki has been named as a partner NGO in the Global Business Coalition for Education's response to the Syrian refugee crisis to educate children.

Social-emotional learning can begin through simple activities that children can understand, practice, and take with them into their daily lives.
In Gaza, Spark for Innovation and Creativity downloaded the Nour’s World app and introduced its activities to children in a school setting.

During the session, the children practiced a guided breathigng exercise, learned the Friends’ Handshake activity, and took part in a Self-Hug activity. Through these moments, they were introduced to simple ways of pausing, connecting with one another, and expressing care for themselves.

This experience also shows how Nour’s World can reach children in different learning environments. In this case, the activities were not implemented through Thaki laptops, but through the app itself, downloaded and used directly by Spark for Innovation with the children they support.

We are grateful to Spark for Innovation & Creativity Innovation and Creativity for bringing Nour’s World into their learning space in Gaza and for sharing this experience with us.
Nour’s World is available for download on Google Play and the App Store

Thaki’s work began with a simple goal: to support children affected by the Syrian crisis with access to learning.

Today, we are pleased to be expanding our work to Syria.
After working across Lebanon, Jordan, and Egypt, this step brings us closer to where our story began, and allows us to reach more children through our devices and learning platforms.

For us, this expansion is not only about entering a new country. It is about continuing the work of helping children access learning in contexts where education remains limited.

As Eid Al-Adha approaches, we reflect on the meaning of giving, community, and looking out for one another.

Across the region, many children continue learning in different and changing environments. Through access to digital tools and educational content, learning remains within reach, helping children stay connected to their education wherever they are.

At Thaki, these moments continue to shape our work and the partnerships that make it possible.

Eid Mubarak from all of us at Thaki.

In some classrooms, teaching is now happening through a phone screen.
As one school shared after their first day of online learning:
“Some of our teachers are using their mobile phones to teach, and not all students have access to devices. Attendance was lower, but we are doing our best to continue.”

As schools shift to online learning once again, access to devices remains uneven for both teachers and students.
Having the right tools can make this transition more stable and help learning continue in a more effective way.

88 devices have been received from Italy and the Netherlands as part of ongoing efforts to support access to learning.
These contributions help us stay prepared as needs continue to evolve across different communities.

Each device can support continued access to education in places where learning tools are limited or urgently needed.

As one school shared with us:
“We would greatly benefit from laptop support. Many of our teachers have been displaced and do not have access to laptops. This would help them continue teaching and support students as we move to online classes.”

In the current situation, teaching is happening from unfamiliar spaces, often without the tools needed to continue.
Providing laptops helps teachers continue their work and supports students in staying connected to their learning.

is a new content partner of Thaki’s!

Thaki is a nonprofit organization whose mission it is to empower refugee and vulnerable children to learn and thrive through self-paced, motivational electronic tools.
Children don’t only learn through lessons. They also learn through stories, voices, and moments that stay with them.

Through this partnership with Shamandar, Arabic audio content becomes part of children’s learning journeys, supporting imagination, language, and cultural connection alongside education.

Because learning doesn’t always look the same, and sometimes, it begins with a story.

Places we associate with learning can change quickly.
From north to south Lebanon, this map reflects a network of learning centers and local partners we have worked with over the years. Each point represents a space where children gathered to learn, follow routines, and feel a sense of stability.

Today, some of these spaces have been impacted, and the situation continues to evolve.
In times like these, what matters is staying connected to the people on the ground, understanding what has changed, and adapting how support is provided. This may look different from one place to another, but the goal remains the same: helping children continue learning in ways that are possible and appropriate to their current reality.

In response to the recent displacement of a quarter of Lebanon’s population, we have started an aggressive response campaign, starting with 122 laptios distributed through 10 partner organizations. Much more will follow soon.

This support helps students stay connected to their education as schools and learning spaces continue to adapt.
Access to a device can make it possible for students to continue learning, even when routines are disrupted and conditions are changing.

We continue to work closely with partners to understand where support is needed and how devices can be distributed in ways that respond to current learning needs.

Children do not always have the words to explain what they are feeling.
Sometimes, this appears in the way they participate, respond, or withdraw from learning.
For refugee children, emotional support is an important part of the learning process, especially when they are adjusting to new environments and experiences.

Through Nour’s World, children are introduced to simple ways to understand their emotions and express them in a safe, age-appropriate way. This helps teachers, parents, and caregivers support children not only as learners, but as children navigating change.
