The European String Teachers’ Association (ESTA) is a non-governmental organisation enjoying participatory status with the Council of Europe. In 1972 a small group of eminent string teachers (Marianne Kroemer, Max Rostal and Yehudi Menuhin), founded ESTA to promote the highest standards in teaching and to enable the sharing of ideas among string teachers and players of all distinctions throughout

Europe. An eminent member of the string teaching community is invited to be President. Past Presidents have included Max Rostal, Sir Yehudi Menuhin, Siegfried Palm and Igor Ozim.

Today, on Thursday, 27 August at 17:00, the viola takes centre stage at the Sibelius Academy R-Building Concert Hall!

The highlight of the evening is the Grandissimo Viola Orchestra, conducted by Finnish violist and conductor Vuokko Lahtinen. And viola players attending the conference are warmly invited to join the orchestra on stage with their own instruments!

Thursday is all about creativity, collaboration and exploring new possibilities for string playing. The day starts with a body maintenance session, and ends with a Cello Fiesta, celebrating ensemble playing and collaboration in cello music.

Among them, Lotta Marie Violinist will be at the Yamaha stand presenting Yamaha’s electric violins. Come say hi, try out an instrument, and chat about electric violins, improvisation, effects, and the possibilities that electronic instruments can open up in teaching!
