We are thrilled to celebrate UNESCO’s official inscription of Deepavali (Diwali) on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity! 🌍✨
Diwali, the vibrant Festival of Lights that symbolizes the victory of light over darkness, hope over despair, and unity over division, has now been recognized for its deep cultural significance and its power to bring people together across generations, communities, and continents.
UNESCO highlights Deepavali’s profound social value, noting that:
“Deepavali strengthens social bonds, promotes inclusivity, and encourages values such as kindness, gratitude and hope. It also supports local economies and creative expression.” This recognition beautifully reflects what communities around the world already know and what our foundation stands for.
At Stichting IFA, this is a moment of pride and inspiration. For years, our Almere Diwali Festival has brought these timeless values to life right here in the Netherlands, celebrating diversity, cultural expression, and the joy of light, music, food, and togetherness. Our festival has grown into the biggest Diwali Festival of the Benelux, where thousands of people celebrate the warmth and magic of Diwali together.
And as we honor this global recognition, we also celebrate one of the most beloved elements of Diwali, the spectacular fireworks that illuminate the night sky. 🎆 At Almere Diwali, our fireworks show is more than a tradition, it is a symbol of joy, renewal, and the brilliant spirit of community that Diwali embodies.
Thank you to UNESCO for this important recognition.
Let’s continue to shine bright together. 🪔❤️
