Motivational Interviewing (MI) isn't that hard to understand. Once you'd start reading the standard textbooks you will quickly notice how much it resonates with what you were already thinking, or looking for.
However, just adding some 'MI-light' to your otherwise unchanged practice, won't change much (if anything at all).
MI is learned by disciplined listening, not by just accumulating some techniques and strategies.
Reading matters, workshops matter, but the decisive learning loop is:
Perform -> Record -> Code -> Receive feedback -> Isolate one thing to work on -> Drill it -> Perform again.
