Project Activities
The Rural Health and Development Project are designed to improve child and maternal health through the access to and quality of health services in rural area, to reduce health and social disparity among rural population, to eradicate poverty and malnutrition in rural area, and develop Ministry of Health and local NGO management and system. The project aims three year rural heal
th development in city of Matagalpa, Nicaragua target on 37,000 rural residents (34% population who lives in rural area in Matagalpa). It also includes one regional hospital, 14 health care units and 74 communities, in conjunction with the Ministry of Health of Matagalpa and local NGO.
1.1.1. Health care/education and Nutrition: The provision of a basic package (Annex 2) of 14 health and nutrition services to benefit approximately 37,000 residents in 74 rural communities. The nutritional activities focus on growth promotion and parent education to address nutritional deficiencies in infants and children under five, and pregnant women in rural areas. Basic health services are to be provided to all children under age five and pregnant in the selected communities.
1.1.2. Women /Adolescent’s club program: Women's Clubs is to continually bring about public awareness of the issues facing women and to bring about social changes, especially those which will improve the lot of the women and children. Adolescent club delivery s*x &reproductive health education since the priority SRH (Sexual and Reproductive health) issues facing young people are high rates of teenage pregnancy, increasing rates of STIs and HIV/AIDS, gender-based violence and substance abuse. Overall, the club topics are nutrition, health and hygiene, safe drinking water, kitchen gardens, and vocational training.
1.1.3. Mobile clinic and auxiliary: The mobile clinic provides doorstep services, keeping track of children’s vaccinations, monitoring the health of pregnant women, meeting with groups of women and children to discuss basic hygiene issues.
