We partner with Dr. Lester Tapia of Aprovet Nicaragua and rely 100% on charitable donations. Please use this link to donate any amount you can to help these poor animals. https://www.paypal.me/Aprovet

Our long term goal is to contribute and assis

t with Sterilization projects in and around Granada to help reduce the population of the homeless dogs and cats. We are open to partnering with local Veterinarians, clinics and other organizations dedicated to this cause. We are always looking for volunteers to help as well. Currently focused on feeding and getting medical attention to the homeless animals in need, we have set up 4 feeding stations around the city. These feeders are managed by the adjacent business or homeowner and funded by donations made directly to the NicaPaws group. You can also donate food at the Real Estate Nicaragua office on La Calzada. To make a donation directly to the NicaPaws group, please contact us directly.

Suzie needs our help. 🙏💔🙏

One of our volunteers, Noella, has seen Suzie many times on the streets while riding through the area on her electric bike.

Yesterday, she noticed Suzie limping badly and feared her leg was broken. The thought of Suzie suffering kept her awake all night. 🫩

This morning, the Nica Paws team found Suzie and rushed her to the vet. We discovered she has an old healed fracture with arthritis in one leg, and now a dislocated hip on the other side that will require surgery. 😢 Can you imagine the pain of walking with a dislocated hip? It's heartbreaking! 💔

Before surgery, we must first treat the severe anemia and Ehrlichiosis (tick disease). We also need to give her Tick prevention meds.

Suzie is in pain and needs urgent medical care. If you would like to help with her treatment and surgery, please consider making a donation. Every dollar helps give Suzie a chance to walk without pain again. 🐾

We appreciate every donation, big or small.

We are now treating 3 sick dogs, (Suzie, Chispa and Scooby) which are taking money away from our next sterilization campaign. 😬

WE ARE SO APPRECIATIVE FOR THE SUPPORT WE’VE RECEIVED in the last few weeks. Thanks to our Angels, we have enough money to give Scooby the treatment he needs and also to sterilize 4 more animals. 😊🥰😘

However, OUR WORK NEVER ENDS. 🥺😢☹️

This is Chispa….. who despite living in the streets and being mistreated by people in the neighborhood, she is the SWEETEST little girl. ❤🐕 ❤

We picked up Chispa this morning to bring her for a simple spay surgery. But after examination, we discovered that she has Canine Transmissible Venereal Tumor (TVT). She also has parasites (intestinal worms), and an injury in her mouth, damaging her teeth (probably from being kicked) 🤬 and is covered in ticks and fleas.

Chispa deserves a better life and with your help, we can get her well and hopefully adopted to a family that will love her. She is a small dog, probably dachshund or chihuahua mix so maybe there is a family who will want a smaller dog. 🙏🙏🙏

We will need approximately $140.00 to cover 4 chemo treatments and other medicines. We already have money to cover her spay surgery.

If you would like to help Chispa and other homeless animals of Granada, Nicaragua... please consider using one of the following options to donate.

WE FOUND SCOOBY! 🥰

For the last week, we have been searching for Scooby, the dog with a huge hole on his back, which appeared to be screwworm. 🤢

Last night, one of our volunteers received a call that Scooby had been seen at a local restaurant near Sandino Park. We jumped in the car immediately and rushed to find him.

Thank you Carla Gómez Martínez for not giving up in finding Scooby!

He was terrified. He tried to bite us when we attempted to get him into the crate. But once we got closer, we realized he was suffering far more than we imagined. 😢

The “hole” on his back was actually a massive tumor. As the vet examined him, we discovered his body is covered in tumors. He struggles to breathe because of a tumor in his nasal passage. He has an impacted front tooth, likely from being kicked in the mouth, and another large tumor has severely enlarged his p***s.

We prepared ourselves for the worst while waiting for the biopsy results, praying it was not hopeless cancer. 🙏

Then came the news we were desperately hoping for — Scooby has Canine Transmissible Venereal Tumor (TVT), a contagious STD cancer that is highly treatable. This is one of the worst TVT cases we have ever seen, but Scooby finally has a chance. 😊

Scooby will need at least 8 chemotherapy treatments at approximately $25 each, along with medication for Ehrlichiosis, tick and flea prevention, and eventually sterilization once he is strong enough.

Scooby has survived alone on the streets while carrying unimaginable pain. Now he needs people willing to help him fight for his life.

Any donation, no matter how small, will help give Scooby the chance he deserves. ❤️

Meet Capitan, Nica Paws latest rescue💔

We were told he has survived alone in the busy Granada market for the last 8 years. One of our volunteers found him this morning, lying listlessly in the path as strangers walked past, ignoring his suffering.

Capitan is severely emaciated, weak, covered in ticks and fleas, and battling life-threatening anemia from tick disease. We truly feared there was no hope.

But thanks to kind strangers who helped us get him to a vet, Capitan now has a fighting chance. And despite everything, he is incredibly sweet and trusting—like he knows he’s finally safe.

We’re doing everything we can to save him, but we need your help. Donations will go toward his treatment, recovery, nutritious food and neutering.

If you’re able to give—or even open your heart and home to foster or adopt Capitan—please reach out. Let’s give this gentle soul the life he’s always deserved ❤️ Any amount is appreciated and will go to help Capitan and many others like him.

Poochy’s story began with heartbreak—but it deserves a happy ending.

When his family moved away, they left him behind to survive on the streets alone. Confused and scared, Poochy waited… not understanding why the people he loved never came back.

By the time we found him, he was in rough shape. He was suffering from TVT, a painful UTI, and was covered in ticks and fleas. Despite everything he had been through, Poochy never lost his gentle spirit. He still wagged his tail, leaned in for affection, and looked at people with hopeful eyes.

Thanks to the support of our community, Poochy has received the medical care he needed. He has been fully treated, sterilized, and will be up to date on all of his vaccines before going to his new home. We believe he is only about 1–2 years old, with his whole life still ahead of him.

Today, Poochy is healthy, playful, incredibly smart, and full of love. He adores cuddles, enjoys playtime, and bonds deeply with the people who care for him. He will need a patient family willing to give him time to adjust, plenty of attention, and a secure yard where he can safely settle in and feel at home.

What Poochy wants most is simple: a family who will never leave him behind again.

Could you be the one to give Poochy the forever home he has been waiting for?

Please reach out to us if you are interested in bringing Poochy into your family or SHARE this post to help us.

Thank you!

UPDATE: We've received $180 towards our goal of $300 to help these three babies plus seven others from our list. Thank you to our supporters who have helped us! 🥰 💕🥳

We've already sterilized two dogs, Ixy and Ruby. Ixy is the sweet girl with the severe case of Pyometra. Her uterus was literally filled with pus from the infection. (I saw the video, was very upsetting) She is better now after surgery and a few days of antibiotics. 😍

Ruby is one of her puppies who'd already had several litters. She is doing well after her spay surgery. Both Ixy and Ruby have been given flea/ticks prevention meds.

Next, we will help Poochy and the female dog with the broken leg. 🙏

🐾 Help Change the lives of Homeless Animals of Granda 🐾

Nica Paws is on a mission to sterilize 10 vulnerable animals from the streets of Granada, Nicaragua. We need your help to make it happen. At approximately $30 per animal, we can prevent future suffering, reduce overpopulation, and stop the spread of deadly diseases.

One of the dogs in urgent need is Poochy. He’s been struggling with an ongoing prostate issue that makes it painful and difficult for him to urinate. A simple neuter surgery could significantly relieve his discomfort and improve his quality of life.

We’re also caring for a female street dog who is currently in heat and suffering from a broken leg. She’s at high risk on the streets—both from injury and unwanted pregnancies—and urgently needs medical attention and sterilization.

Another female dog in our care has a severe case of pyometra, a life-threatening uterine infection. She needs surgery right away in order to save her life.

These are just a few of the dogs from our long and never ending list of animals needing our help.

Every donation, big or small, brings us closer to helping them live without pain and preventing more hardship in the future.

💛 $30 sponsors one life-saving sterilization
💛 $60 helps two animals
💛 Any amount makes a big difference

If you can’t donate, please consider sharing this post to spread the word.

Together, we can give these dogs the care and compassion they deserve. 🐶✨

Our February Sterilization campaign was a HUGE success! 🥳🥳🥳

Thank you to our generous donors who made it possible for us to reach our goal of sterilizing 40 animals this week, including 34 dogs, 4 cats and 2 rabbits. 🐕🐈‍⬛🐇

A special Thank you to Clínica Veterinaria NicaVets for arranging this special promotion, allowing us to make a huge dent in the overpopulation of unwanted animals in Granada. Dr. Stephen Aguilar and his team are always so professional and such a pleasure to work with. We appreciate you all very much! 😍

Thank you to our Volunteers who put in the long hours and hard work to help us reach our goal! Nica Paws would not be possible without each one of you! 😘😘

The week was not without its challenges.

One puppy, Lulu was so anemic she couldn’t have surgery right away. Her gums were snow white. After 4 days of healthy food and medicine, her gums turned pink and she was able to have surgery on Friday. Yay!

Only one dog was discovered to have TVT but received treatment and was still able to have surgery.

Cappuccino, a recent rescue from the Calzada was diagnosed with a respiratory illness and will have to wait another week or so before she can have surgery.

Another dog named Lulu was hit by a car the night before her surgery was scheduled. Luckily, nothing was broken so she was able to have surgery a few days later.

A few dogs had tick disease and were started on antibiotics but were still healthy enough to have surgery.

We were also able to give tick and flea prevention meds to all the ones who needed it. All animals received vaccinations.

Below are some photo highlights from our very hectic but very rewarding week!
