James 2:14-18 ESV
What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that? So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. But someone will say, “You have faith and I have works.” Show me your faith apart from your works, and I will show you my faith by my works.

MINISTERIO MATEO 5:16 EN NICARAGUA
Jinotepe – Diriamba

Dear Friends,
Let me tell you what is happening in Nicaragua and with our Ministry

More than 200 unarmed people have been killed in peaceful protests in the last 60 days. Many more than in Venezuela in 3 years. An evangelical pastor and his family of 6 was just burned to death inside their home including two babies because they refused to let paramilitary use their home as high ground for a sniper attack. All while the president drags his feet as he allegedly agrees to plans for peace and new elections in 2019. He is reluctant to leave the presidency.
A glimmer of hope
Though there is nothing much on the US news and most Americans don’t even know what is going on in Nicaragua, the Washington Post and others are reporting now that Pence just announced that the USA is solidly against what is happening. Today (6/20/2018), the U.S. Ambassador to the OEA arrived in Nicaragua to help with the peace talks.
Now, even the UN and EU are getting involved to condemn the killing of innocent people and what is going on in Nicaragua.
El Nuevo Diario and 100% Noticias can be found on the Internet.

Meanwhile, Masaya refuses to be controlled by the government of Ortega. Six more civilians have been killed there and many more injured. However, many police are leaving the police force there and in other towns so as not to be involved in harming civilians.
As Nicaragua struggles for freedom from oppression, our ministry continues to minister to the children
With this country in civil unrest it means we need more money to function. Prices have gone up for everything because the supermarkets and markets are practically bare. The road blocks haven’t allowed the trucks to get through. And the attacks on the markets have caused most people to take down their stands. Even the electricity and water have tripled.

We need your help more than ever!
Most people right now have no income because they cannot get to work and that includes the people in our churches in Juigalpa and Diriamba.
In order to feed the children who attend our church we need staples like oil, vegetables, beverages and, when possible, chicken. We still have the Manna packs but they are not really palatable simply cooked in water.

Ultimately, our people are looking to us for help. Even our Pastors have no support.
For the past two months, Pastor Glenn and I have sent funds to our Pastor and his wife who were living in our house taking care of our daughter, Emmy. This money also took care of him, his wife and our youth pastors living in Diriamba. He and his wife finally were able to return to Juigalpa where their own daughter had a medical emergency and where his church needs him.
Now, we have to send funds for household expenses and for a new person who is taking care of Emmy. We have almost no food in our house in Jinotepe and we have ministry and personal bills to pay also.
We are currently in Florida and praying for an end to this violence and for us to be able to return. Emmy is studying online since it is too dangerous for the schools in Jinotepe to reopen. We pray she doesn’t run out of medication. Right now she is sick with a bad cold and she isn't getting very good nutrition.
We have two households to support plus our pastors and youth pastors. We cannot do this alone. We are living on Social Security and we cannot work due to health issues. We need monthly support.
Our plan to sell our house in Nicaragua is on hold. We know that God has His plans for us. We must continue on until He releases us from Nicaragua. No matter what, we are dedicated to continuing our ministry there and helping the wonderful, self-sacrificing people who are giving their lives to set their country free from tyranny.

Brothers and Sisters we urgently need your help!

Greetings Friend and Ministry Partner,

We would like to share with you our ideas for the future of our ministry as regards our operation of Casa Mateo Missions House.

As you know, Pastor Glenn and I have now been ministering in Nicaragua for 15 years. Among other things, we have operated Casa Mateo Missions House since 2005. Throughout this time the Lord has sustained us and we have experienced many miracles and much grace and favor. He has permitted us to be a bridge of hope by hosting short-term missions’ teams who come to bless the Nicaraguan people.

We see that over the last five years there has been a change in short-term missions and many people are no longer coming to Jinotepe or Diriamba. Many of them are going to other nations. As a result, we are unable to sustain our ministry with the income that we derive from hosting teams.

As an NGO, it has not been our desire to enrich ourselves via Casa Mateo but sustain our ministry and bless others.

Our ministry is expanding: we have 16 churches, 12 senior pastors, pre-schools, and programs to help the poor from providing food to university scholarships. We have not sought to expand but that is where God has us.

As of this time, using Casa Mateo, as a Missions House/Ministry Hotel, no longer enables us to give this beautiful building the maintenance it requires nor does it provide us with funds to sustain the ministry. So, we are going to retain the Suites for visiting Pastors and rent out the rest of the building. We believe that this will provide the funds we need to carry on.

We have been in prayer for the past five years asking our Father what He wants us to do. We believe that He is finally releasing us to rent another property in Jinotepe that we already restored when we were renting it for our New Life Youth Ministry from 2009-2012. We will be housing teams there (and also at Quinta Esperanza in Diriamba). This is welcome news to the people in that neighborhood because they have been praying for us to come back.

In order to make this move and maintain our ministries that were heretofore provided for by Casa Mateo and until such time as our new vision for Casa Mateo starts to produce the necessary income, we need a minimum of $2500 per month. This provides for rent, utilities, guards, preschool teacher, vehicle maintenance, miscellaneous expenses and office supplies for our two principle church locations.

We are asking for 25 people who will commit to donating $100 or more per month for a year. Other amounts will, of course, help us to reach our goal of $2500 per month. Considering all that we do this is really not a large amount.

Time is of the essence! So, we are hoping that once again you will consider helping Association Ministerio Mateo 5:16 in Nicaragua to continue ministering to the people here and spreading the Good News. ATTENTION; STUDENTS, SHORT-TERM MISSIONS TEAMS, PASTORS, VOLUNTEERS., DTS STUDENTS

If you are planning a trip to Nicaragua to minister or to study we have two ministry locations to serve you.

Quinta Esperanza Retreat Center in Diriamba is perfect for youth groups and offers long-term accommodations for ministry students, missions and volunteers. Bunk beds are available at $5 per night and meals for $10 per day. If you like children, we have our Jesus' Little Seedlings Preschool, after-school sports and Sunday school. We are looking for volunteers to help with our Feeding Program and Day Care program.

Casa Mateo Missions House in Jinotepe was a hotel and can accommodate 100 people. It is perfect for Short-term and Long-term Missions teams, Conferences, Seminars and students. Short-term groups pay $25 per night per person including breakfast. Long-term rates are $15 per night per person including breakfast.

You can check our pages: Quinta Esperanza Retreat Center & Casa Mateo Missions House.
