A landmark day for education in Kaduna State.

At the Centre for Girls’ Education, we are proud to be part of this defining moment.

The validation of the Kaduna State Policy on Gender in Education (SPGE 2026–2030) and the Kaduna State Life Skills Policy marks a critical shift—from programme-based interventions to a sustainable, government-led system.

Chaired by the Honourable Commissioner of Education, Abubakar Sani Sambo, the session brought together key stakeholders across government, development partners, and civil societies —demonstrating strong collective commitment to transforming education.

These policies represent more than documents —they are a pathway to lasting change:

• Addressing structural barriers to access, retention, and completion of schooling
• Institutionalising life skills as a core part of the curriculum
• Grounding decisions in data across all 23 LGAs in Kaduna State
• Ensuring sustainability beyond donor-driven programmes

By embedding the proven impact of Safe Spaces into the public system, Kaduna State is ensuring that life skills education becomes a permanent feature of its education landscape.

As these policies move toward Executive Council approval, one message is clear:

Kaduna is not just improving education — it is transforming the system.

Growth starts from within. ✨

Our Leadership Team recently completed a powerful leadership and productivity training conducted by Adaptive Solutions, combining Productive 10X and CliftonStrengths.

The session deepened clarity on individual strengths, strengthened collaboration, and equipped us with practical tools to work smarter — not longer.

At CGE, empowering girls starts with empowering our team. 💡
Stronger alignment. Smarter strategy. Greater impact.

We’re excited to partner with the Policy Innovation Centre (PIC) on a qualitative study supporting CGE’s Pathways to Choice Project, exploring what shapes parents’ and communities’ decisions around girls’ education, vocational training, and early marriage in Kaduna State.

We recently held a co-creation session to ensure the study reflects local realities and community voices. Through this partnership, PIC will also strengthen CGE’s capacity to conduct qualitative research and generate high-quality evidence for long-term impact.

At the Centre for Girls’ Education (CGE), we believe education creates choice—and choice creates empowered futures.

Social norms shape opportunities!
Evidence drives change!!
Girls’ futures matter!!!

We were honored to host Seth Garz, Deputy Director for Lives and Livelihoods at the Gates Foundation, during his recent visit to Nigeria.

During the visit, we shared how the Pathways to Scale project is supporting out-of-school girls to return to learning through our Safe Space model. In these spaces, girls are rebuilding foundational literacy using Jolly Phonics, developing essential life skills, and regaining confidence in themselves as learners.

Walking through the Safe Spaces together was especially meaningful. He saw girls who once felt left behind now speaking up, learning to read, and imagining new possibilities for their futures — especially in rural communities where options are often limited.

We are deeply grateful to the Gates Foundation for their continued support and belief in the power of Girls’ Education. Together, we are helping girls reclaim their right to learn and to choose their own paths.

📚 International Day of Education

Every girl we work with has a story.
Some began school late.
Some were pulled out too early.
Some were told education was “not for girls.”

Through Safe Spaces, mentorship, and community support, these girls are rewriting their narratives— one lesson, one conversation, one year at a time.

Education gives girls time.
Time to grow.
Time to choose.

When we Educate the Girl-Child, everyone wins!!!

🎓🌱 180 Girls. New Skills. New Futures.

This week, we celebrated the graduation of 180 young girls (ages 15–18) who completed a six-month agricultural production and entrepreneurship training through our partnership with NAERLS, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.

From poultry and fish farming to horticulture, food processing, and value addition, these girls have gained practical skills that open real pathways to income, dignity, and independence.

Many of the girls are out of school or from underserved backgrounds. Through this programme, they didn’t just learn farming techniques — they built confidence, discipline, and belief in their own potential.

We are grateful to Professor Yusuf Sani and the entire NAERLS team for their technical support, patience, and commitment to girls’ economic empowerment. This partnership, signed earlier this year, reflects what is possible when institutions work together to invest in girls’ futures.

At CGE, we believe that skills are power — and when girls have access to skills, they can support themselves, their families, and their communities.

Congratulations to every graduate. We can’t wait to see what you grow next. 🌾✨

Investing in girls is not just the right thing to do — it’s one of the smartest investments Nigeria can make.

At a high-level dissemination event hosted by , , and the , new evidence showed that investing in adolescent girls’ education and delaying early marriage can generate powerful returns for families, communities, and Nigeria economy!

CGE was proud to share implementation insights from our Safe Space model — built from years of working alongside girls, parents, teachers, community & Religious leaders across Northern Nigeria.

From Zaria to nine states, our Life Skills Safe Spaces have supported over 300,000 girls to stay in school, build skills, and negotiate futures they choose.

When girls stay in school, communities change.
When we invest in girls, Nigeria moves forward.
✨ The evidence is clear! The stories are real! Now is the time to act!

Katsina State is taking bold steps for girls’ futures.

The Centre for Girls’ Education (CGE), in collaboration with the Katsina State Ministry of Basic & Secondary Education and the World Bank–supported AGILE Project, convened a High-Level Stakeholders Meeting to institutionalise Life Skills education across all secondary schools in Katsina state.

This bold step means thousands more girls will have access to mentorship, life-skills learning, and supportive school environments that help them grow with confidence — while staying in school and complete schooling.

We are proud of the strong commitment shown by Commissioner of Education, other government leaders, community and religious leaders, AGILE team, and educators who are championing a future where girls can learn, lead, and thrive.

Together, we are building a Katsina state where Life Skills is not a project — but a system.

Malala Fund Meets Emir of Zazzau 👑

We were honoured to participate in a Multi-Stakeholder meeting hosted by His Royal Highness, the Emir of Zazzau Amb. Ahmad Nuhu Bamalli and Malala Fund, bringing together key partners committed to strengthening Girls’ Education in Nigeria and around the world.

Malala Fund’s Co-Founder and Board Member, Mr. Ziauddin Yousafzai, alongside other Board Members and their Nigeria leadership team, travelled to Zaria to deepen engagement with partners, government and community leaders on how we can ensure that every girl completes 12 years of free, safe, quality and compulsory education.

Centre for Girls Education (CGE) joined the Kaduna State Ministry of Education and other stakeholders to discuss progress on policies such as Second Chance Education, institutionalizing life skills into regular school activities and how we can accelerate actions that keep girls learning and thriving.

At CGE, we believe partnership is the bridge to lasting change — and together, we are moving closer to a future where no girl’s education is cut short.

🎓✨ Every girl deserves the chance to learn, lead, and reach her maximum potential!
