On behalf of the Sickle Cell Warriors Support Organization (SCWASO), we extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who contributed to the success of our 2026 World Sickle Cell Day Celebration.
It wasn't just an event, the hall was filled with strength, stories and solidarity. Warriors shared their journeys, professors lend their expertise, and students left with more awareness than they walked in with.
We were honoured to host dignitaries including the Vice chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, ably represented by the Director of the University Health Services Prof M. Dauda Maigatari, Prof Abdulaziz Hassan, Prof Aliyu Dahiru Waziri, Prof Aisha indo mamman, Prof Hafsa Ahmad and many other dignitaries.

Together, we broke stigma, spread facts and reminded everyone that warriors don't fight alone.

We sincerely appreciate our distinguished speakers and guest speakers for sharing their knowledge, experiences, and expertise, helping to educate, inspire, and empower our community.
Our profound thanks go to all our collaborators, partners, sponsors, student associations, volunteers, and supporters whose dedication, resources, and commitment made this event possible. Your partnership continues to strengthen the fight against sickle cell disease and amplify the voices of warriors.
To all the students, healthcare professionals, advocates, and guests who attended, thank you for your presence, participation, and encouragement. Your engagement made the event impactful and meaningful.

Most importantly, we celebrate and appreciate our brave Sickle Cell Warriors. Your resilience, courage, and determination remain the inspiration behind everything we do. This day was dedicated to you, and we remain committed to advocating for better awareness, support, equity, and quality of life for every warrior.

As we reflect on a successful celebration, we look forward to building stronger partnerships and creating even greater impact together.

HELLO EVERYONE
As we commemorate World Sickle Cell Day, we stand in solidarity with every sickle cell warrior, parent, caregiver, and family affected by Sickle Cell Disease.
Behind every person living with sickle cell disease is a story of courage, resilience, and determination. Many warriors endure recurrent pain crises, frequent hospital visits, blood transfusions, missed school days, and limitations that others may never fully understand. Their parents and families often face emotional stress, sleepless nights, financial burdens, and the constant fear of losing a loved one.
Yet, despite these challenges, sickle cell warriors continue to inspire us with their strength and hope.
On this special day, we call on governments, healthcare providers, communities, and individuals to increase awareness, promote genotype testing, improve access to quality healthcare, and support research aimed at finding better treatments and ultimately a cure.
Let us replace stigma with understanding, ignorance with awareness, and despair with hope.
Together, we can create a future where every sickle cell warrior lives with dignity, opportunity, and access to the care they deserve.

"The sickle cell worrior"
I am a warrior, strong and brave,
Fighting battles others cannot see.
Some days are hard, the pain is deep,
But still, I rise and still, I dream.
My body may struggle, my steps may slow,
Yet inside me burns a fire that grows.
Through hospital nights and silent tears,
I have learned courage beyond my years.
People see my smile, but not my fight,
The sleepless days, the painful nights.
Still, I stand with hope held tight,
Believing tomorrow will shine more light.
I am not weak because I cry,
I am strong because I still try.
Sickle cell may be part of me,
But it will never define who I will be.
Today we honor every warrior strong,
Who keeps moving forward all along.
With faith, with love, with hearts so bright,
Sickle cell warriors continue the fight.
So if you see me, do not pity me—
Stand beside me, support me, hear my story.
For I am a warrior, bold and true,
And this warrior spirit will always shine through.
