UNDERSTANDING MONEY

Precious treasure and oil are in a wise man’s dwelling, but a foolish man devours it.
Proverbs 21:20

One important truth about money is this: all the money you will receive in your lifetime will not come to you at once.

Every amount that comes into your hands is part of your lifetime income. Therefore, it must be managed wisely.

Money has three parts:
A PAST
A PRESENT
A FUTURE

A wise person understands that every money received has implications for the past, present, and future.

VITAL FACTS ABOUT SAVING

If you prepare for bad times, you will be better positioned to have good times.

If you don’t save, you are not safe.

You must learn to save before you start investing. Part of the purpose of saving is to prepare for investment opportunities.
Saving may not come naturally to everyone in the same way spending does. It requires discipline.

There are three basic things you can do with money: waste it, spend it, or invest it.

A foolish person wastes money.
An average person spends money.
A wise person invests money.

Remember: 30% of your income should be treated differently — 20% for savings/investment and 10% for tithe.

WHY SHOULD YOU SAVE?

Because it is the wise thing to do.
Saving builds financial discipline.

It gives you funds to invest.
Why should someone give you money when you haven’t learned to set aside money for yourself?
It helps you make debt-free purchases.
As much as possible, develop the discipline to buy now and pay now.

It positions you to maximize opportunities.
Always prepare financially for opportunities before they arrive.

POOR — Passing Over Opportunities Repeatedly.

It can save you from embarrassment.
It prepares you for unforeseen circumstances.
It moves you towards financial freedom.
It reduces the anxiety and worry that come from lack of funds.
It makes you a good example.
