Happy Mother’s Day to mothers around the world. 🌍💙

Today we celebrate the strength, resilience, and love of mothers everywhere. Mothers are the foundation of families and the backbone of our communities. Their dedication, sacrifice, and guidance help shape a better and more just society.
At GEEWCI (Gender Equality and Empowerment of Women and Children Initiative), we honor mothers for their vital role in nurturing, protecting, and empowering the next generation. We remain committed to promoting gender equality and supporting women and children so that every mother and child can live with dignity, opportunity, and hope.

Did you Know that:

● GBV is not a private matter, it is a violation of human rights that affects families, communities, and entire societies. Ending it requires courage, awareness, and collective action.

● Silence allows Gender-Based Violence to grow. Speaking out, supporting survivors, and holding perpetrators accountable are essential steps toward a safer and more just world.

Violence against women and children is not just an attack on individuals, it is an attack on the very foundation of our communities. Every woman deserves dignity, every child deserves safety, and every voice deserves to be heard.
When we choose respect over abuse, compassion over cruelty, and protection over silence, we break the cycle that has harmed generations.
Let us stand together, speak out boldly, and create a world where no woman lives in fear and no child suffers in silence. Ending violence is not a choice; it is a responsibility we all share.

Empowering Frontline Responders to Prevent, Mitigate and Respond to Gender-Based Violence Incidents against Survivors, especially Women and Girls.

Today, in partnership with Goggoji Zumunci Development Initiative (GZDI) and funding support from the Nigeria Humanitarian Fund (NHF), Gender Equality and Empowerment of Women and Children Initiative (GEEWCI) concluded a 4-day comprehensive capacity-building training for caseworkers, community volunteers, and safe space facilitators and supervisors of Magumeri LGA of Borno State on the core concepts of Gender-Based Violence (GBV), forms of GBV, effective handling of GBV disclosures, GBV case management, prevention from sexual exploitation and abuse (PSEA) and facilitation of community engagement services.

This impactful training aimed to strengthen the participants’ knowledge, skills, and confidence in providing survivor-centered, confidential, and compassionate support to women and girls survivors of GBV in Magumeri community including other vulnerable individuals at risks and affected by the protracted conflicts. Through interactive sessions, real-life scenarios, and group discussions, participants explored practical strategies for prevention, risk mitigation and response, as well as community engagement services and activities to promote gender equality and protection for all.

By investing in the capacity of frontline actors, GEEWCI continues to reaffirm its commitment to building safer communities, enhancing accountability, and ensuring that every survivor’s voice is heard and respected across the BAY states of the Northeast Nigeria. Together, we are creating a society where women, men, girls, and boys can live free from violence and discrimination.

At 65,
Nigeria stands at a crossroads. The protection of women and children is not just a matter of human rights but the foundation for a prosperous future. When women are safe, empowered, and given equal opportunities, entire communities thrive. When children are protected from abuse, malnutrition, exploitation, and denied education, we break cycles of poverty and lay the groundwork for generations of leaders, innovators, and change-makers.

We must rise against gender-based violence, child labor, trafficking, and harmful practices. Our policies, communities, and families must commit to building a Nigeria where:

👉🏼Every woman can live free from fear and violence.

👉🏼Every child can access quality education, healthcare, and a safe environment.

👉🏼Every girl can dream without limits, and every boy can grow without trauma.

At 65, let Nigeria reaffirm its promise: to protect women, to safeguard children, and to build a future where every citizen can stand tall with dignity and hope.

Because the true independence of Nigeria will be found in the freedom, safety, and opportunities we give our women and children.
