On January 3, 2026, Kenya lost one of its most iconic: Craig, a 54-year-old bull from Amboseli National Park, famed for his enormous, ground-touching tusks and calm presence against the backdrop of Mount Kilimanjaro. He passed peacefully of natural causes, a testament to decades of dedicated conservation efforts by the Kenya Wildlife Service, local communities, and partners.
Super tuskers like Craig (and others such as the tragic Satao, poached in 2014) are vanishing relicsβfewer than 30 remain across Africa due to historic poaching and habitat pressures. Their massive ivory (often over 100 lbs per tusk) made them targets, but stories like Craig's show what protection can achieve: he lived a full life, fathered calves, and inspired millions.
Let's celebrate these living legends while we still can. Protect wildlife, support anti-poaching, and cherish the wild.
