In a heartwarming celebration of International Womenโs Day (IWD) 2025, Her Excellency Hajiya Lami Ahmadu Fintiri has called for urgent and accelerated action in the pursuit of womenโs rights, equity, and empowerment.
As part of her unwavering commitment to this cause, she and other partners empowered five young girls with cash grants of N250,000 each, symbolizing the importance of investing in the next generation of women leaders.
Every year, on March 8, the world unites to commemorate International Womenโs Day, and this yearโs theme "For ALL Women and Girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment." serves as a powerful reminder that true progress lies in ensuring no one is left behind.
The theme reinforces the urgent need to unlock equal rights, power, and opportunities for women and girls while fostering a future where they can thrive without barriers.
Advancing Gender Equality and a Legacy of Inclusion, representing Her Excellency at the event, Hon. Neido G. Kofulto, Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, emphasized that IWD is not just a day of celebration but a call to action a reminder that womenโs achievements, voices, and contributions must continue to shape a more inclusive and just society.
She praised the administration of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, fondly called the ATM Governor, Fresh Air Governor, and Project Master, for setting historic precedents in gender equity and inclusion. Under his leadership, Adamawa State has become a beacon of womenโs empowerment, pioneering policies that have given women unprecedented representation in governance.
"For the first time in the history of the North-East, my husband selected a woman as Deputy Governor. He also ensured that all 21 Local Government Areas have female Vice Chairpersons. Women are now serving in key leadership roles across multiple sectors, breaking barriers and redefining possibilities not just in Adamawa, but across Nigeria," she said.
A Commitment to Womenโs Economic Empowerment: Through her foundation, the Fresh Air Pro-Life Empowerment Foundation (FAPEF), Hajiya Lami Fintiri reaffirmed her unwavering dedication to ensuring that no woman, girl, or marginalized group is left behind. Her advocacy extends to widows, orphans, persons with disabilities (PWDs), internally displaced persons (IDPs), and women farmers, equipping them with the necessary resources and skills to build sustainable livelihoods.
She also applauded the contributions of development partners such as the European Union (EU), BMZ, GIZ, and Nuru Nigeria, who continue to champion gender equality and economic opportunities through agriculture and skill-building initiatives.
"As we listen to the inspiring stories of women whose lives have been transformed by these initiatives, we must recognize that our work is far from over. We must accelerate action not just to sustain these efforts but to expand them," she urged.
Scaling Up Support for Women in Agriculture: Hajiya Lami Fintiri called on the government and development partners to scale up interventions across all 21 Local Government Areas, emphasizing that gender-focused agricultural programs are critical to economic growth and food security. By investing in women, she stated, we invest in families, communities, and the overall prosperity of Adamawa State and Nigeria.
"As we commemorate this special day, let us renew our commitment to dismantling gender biases, eliminating discrimination, and ensuring that every woman and girl in Adamawa State has the rights, opportunities, and empowerment she deserves."
The Managing Director of Nuru Nigeria, Amy Gaman, expressed deep appreciation for the unwavering support of the Adamawa State Government and Hajiya Lami Ahmadu Fintiri towards the advancement of womenโs rights. She reiterated Nuru Nigeriaโs commitment to continuing its support for women and girls in the state.
Speaking on behalf of the benefiting communities, His Royal Highness Alhaji Sale Mamman Daksiri and His Royal Highness Mohammed Dahiru Buba also commended Hajiya Lami Fintiri for her exceptional dedication to womenโs empowerment, acknowledging her as a leader who has touched countless lives across Adamawa State.
Dignitaries present at the event are Prof. Jauta, Commissioner of Agriculture, Permanent Secretaries, NGOs, FOMWAN, CAN, and many groups.
The event featured inspiring highlights, including:
IWD Campaign Rally across the state capital, Presentation of Awards by the EU, GIZ, and Nuru Nigeria to Hajiya Lami Ahmadu Fintiri, Commissioner for Women Affairs, and others, personal testimonies from beneficiaries whose lives have been transformed, and traditional performances by the Arts Council and Women Farmers among others.
