OBYC DELEGATION VISITS NDDC STATE DIRECTORATE, FORGES PARTNERSHIP FOR YOUTH DEVELOPMENT

The National Executive Council of the Ogbia Brotherhood Youth Council (OBYC) Worldwide led a high-level delegation on a visit to the Director of the Bayelsa State Office of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Engr. Godknows Salo Alamieyeseigha, FNSE, FNITHE, FNICE. The visit took place yesterday, 5th February 2026, at the Commission’s state headquarters, Melford Okilo House in Yenagoa.
The primary objective of the visit was to seek collaboration and a mutually beneficial partnership with the State Office. The delegation aimed to explore how to harness the vast potential of the NDDC to create meaningful and lasting impacts for the youth of Ogbia Kingdom.
The meeting, which followed formal protocols coordinated by the Head of protocols NDDC Bayelsa State Office, Mrs. Faith Desmond Awumade, commenced with a formal introduction of the NDDC official, followed by introducing the delegation's representatives. Presentation of a gift and a commemorative portrait to the State Director was one of the significant moment during the visit. The portrait was bestowed in honour of his outstanding impact in office and his productive collaboration with OBYC’s kinsman and father, Chief Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, the Managing Director/CEO of the NDDC. This synergy was acknowledged as a driving force behind unprecedented development in Ogbia Kingdom and broader Bayelsa State.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, the National President of OBYC, Comr. Mipuru Joe Akaragha, expressed profound gratitude for the Director’s open-door policy and exemplary leadership. He assured the host of OBYC’s genuine commitment, solidarity, and active partnership with the Commission in areas of advocacy, mobilization, and participation in NDDC initiatives.
Comr. Mipuru formally requested for the State office support for OBYC’s upcoming programs designed to promote talent development, educational advancement, entrepreneurial skills acquisition, and campaigns against illicit drug usage. Other highlighted initiatives included a planned medical outreach and advocacy for environmental sustainability. The President also appealed for the inclusion of youth bodies like OBYC in NDDC project implementation and monitoring to ensure smooth and timely completion. He then extended appreciation to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the appointment of the Ogbuku led NDDC management team, describing it as the best in the history of the commission.
The Secretary General of OBYC, Comr. Akari Odumoro Augustine, reiterated the Council’s mandate as a complementary body to government, traditional institutions, and other stakeholders in driving sustainable development. He commended the NDDC for its remarkable work, underscoring the visit as a testament to that appreciation.
In his response, the NDDC State Director, Engr. Godknows Alamieyeseigha, thanked OBYC for the visit, noting it was the first of its kind from any youth body since he assumed office. He carefully addressed the points raised by the delegation, offering guidance and charging OBYC to act as responsible ambassadors for the Commission in project monitoring and providing meaningful feedback.
The Director expressed deep concern over the alarming rate of drug abuse and endorsed OBYC’s plans for sensitization tours, awareness campaigns, and health outreach programs. He urged the Council to move beyond advocacy and take concrete steps to curb societal menaces. Engr. Alamieyeseigha also praised the NDDC MD/CEO, Chief Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, describing him as a rare, listening leader, and commend the Ogbia kingdom for having him as a son. He also thank President Tinubu for appointing Ogbuku as the MD/CEO of the Niger Delta Development Commission. He assured OBYC of his support, assistance, and an open door for future engagement, citing his close affinity with Ogbia Kingdom.
During the meeting, the Deputy Director, Egnr. Anthony Pereware in his remarks, emphasized that the state office serves as a vital channel for youth bodies to communicate their goals and concerns to the Commission’s headquarters. He described the visit as timely and urged OBYC to foster community cooperation to avoid bottlenecks in project ex*****on. He also stressed the need for concerted efforts to curtail the widespread abuse of drugs.
Concluding the remarks from the NDDC team, the Head of Protocol, Mrs. Faith Desmond highlighted the importance of instilling good morals in youth for lasting impact. She acknowledged the significance of health outreach programs, particularly in alleviating the plight of our aging mothers in our communities.
The meeting concluded with a group photograph between the OBYC delegation and the management team of the NDDC State Directorate. Also in attendance were the Head of Administration and Human Resource Manager, Bayelsa State Office, Mr. Anderson Woyengikuro, various Clan Youth Presidents from Ogbia Kingdom, Stakeholders, and other members of OBYC.
