This launch marks the conclusion of a three-month policy initiative implemented in partnership with the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO).

The report is a call to action. We must now translate these recommendations into practice, enforce existing rules, and ensure Nigeria’s democracy delivers tangible prosperity and sustainable development.

Today, the Goodluck Jonathan Foundation (GJF) hosted a high-level policy dialogue themed "Democracy and the Voices of Women: From Voice to Power," to commemorate International Women’s Day 2026.

Stakeholders from the political class, civil society, and academia challenged leaders to move beyond rhetoric and dismantle the systemic barriers hindering women’s ascent to political power. The dialogue emphasized practical reforms, including the implementation of reserved legislative seats and the strengthening of legal protections against political violence.

Participants outlined a clear path toward a more representative democracy, one that safeguards the participation of women and persons with disabilities while serving the collective interest of all citizens.
