In 2026, we aren’t just talking about change—we are delivering it. At Hilarity Grace Foundation, we believe that menstruation is a normal part of life, yet period poverty continues to hold millions of women and girls back from reaching their full potential.
Access to menstrual products isn’t a luxury; it’s a human right. Every pad distributed and every conversation started on the streets brings us one step closer to a world where no girl misses school and no woman feels shame because of her body.

Today, we celebrate the strength, resilience, and brilliance of women and girls everywhere! At Hilarity Grace Foundation, we are committed to empowering girls by ensuring **access to free sanitary pads**, so no girl has to miss school because of her period.

This year’s theme, **"Inspire Inclusion,"** reminds us that true progress happens when every girl is valued, supported, and given the dignity she deserves. Through our **free sanitary pad initiative**, we are breaking barriers, ending period poverty, and ensuring that girls can focus on their education without fear or shame.

When I first asked the boys about menstruation, they all agreed it was "disgusting" and something they wanted nothing to do with.

However, as the class progressed, we broke down the myths they had been taught about menstruation. By the end, they were eager to learn how to use a pad.

Why involve everyone? Or Why does this matter?

Because period poverty is a global challenge.

In Nigeria, about 133 million people are multidimensionally poor, and for many girls, this poverty extends to their ability to afford menstrual products.
Studies show that lack of access to proper menstrual hygiene tools and education forces girls to miss school, contributing to higher dropout rates and limiting their future opportunities.

In Nigeria, at least 1 in 10 girls miss school during their menstrual cycle.

Addressing the stigma and shame surrounding menstruation is key to making progress.
