Healthy Ageing Starts with Proper Nutrition 🥘

Many older adults are not eating as well as they should, often because of reduced income, loneliness, health conditions, difficulty cooking, poor appetite, dental problems, or limited access to nutritious food.

At CGE Africa, we recognize that proper nutrition becomes even more important as people age. Beyond food itself, emotional support and companionship during meals can also make a significant difference for older adults. Sometimes, simply checking in regularly or helping with grocery shopping and meal preparation can greatly improve their nutrition and well-being.

Future Women Leaders in Fisheries Fellowship (FUWOLIFF) In-Campus Learning Session – FUNAAB Chapter

The FUNAAB chapter of the FUWOLIFF Fellowship has held its in-campus learning session on Gender & Women’s Leadership in Fisheries.

The session led by Iyanuoluwa Babalola, featured engaging discussions on the concepts of s*x, gender, gender inequality, gender parity, and gender gap, with fellows actively contributing their perspectives and experiences.

An interactive group activity on participation across the fisheries value chain encouraged fellows to examine gender representation in areas such as production, hatchery, feed supply, harvesting, processing, and marketing. Discussions highlighted how perceptions around “manly jobs” continue to limit women’s participation in certain aspects of fisheries, while emphasizing the importance of women acquiring relevant skills, knowledge, and confidence to take on greater responsibilities and leadership roles.

The reflection session further encouraged meaningful conversations around access to resources, decision-making, leadership visibility, and the changes needed to promote greater inclusion within the sector.

The session also emphasized the importance of communication, collaboration, and unity among fellows as they continue to learn and grow together within the fellowship.

We commend the FUNAAB fellows for an insightful and interactive session, and we sincerely appreciate Africa Centre for Energy Policy for supporting this impactful initiative.

Future Women Leaders in Fisheries Fellowship (FUWOLIFF) In-Campus Learning Session – FUTA Chapter

FUWOLIFF fellows at the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) have successfully held their in-campus session on Module 1: Gender & Women’s Leadership in Fisheries.

The session, facilitated by one of our senior fellows, Victoria Ololade-Demehin, introduced key concepts of s*x and gender and discussed climate change and its relevance to the fisheries sector. Fellows actively shared their perspectives, with the facilitator providing clarity and practical context.

Participants examined gender roles across the fisheries value chain, highlighting disparities in participation, decision-making, and ownership, and proposed solutions to address these gaps and to encourage more women to take on leadership roles.

The session also explored personal development and career interests in the blue economy, with fellows identifying areas such as research, production, administration, and value addition. A practical highlight was developing a fish production business idea, including identifying target markets such as restaurants, farms, and industries.

Fellows were further encouraged to take action—whether by building their skills, pursuing opportunities, or starting small with advocacy efforts, particularly around climate change awareness.

We commend the FUTA fellows for delivering an engaging and practical session, and we thank the Africa Centre for Energy Policy for supporting this impactful initiative.

Future Women Leaders in Fisheries Fellowship (FUWOLIFF) In-Campus Learning Session – University of Ibadan Chapter

The FUWOLIFF in-campus mentoring sessions continue to gain momentum, as fellows at the University of Ibadan host a session on Gender & Women’s Leadership in Fisheries.

The session, facilitated by one of our senior fellows, Khadijah Ameen, featured engaging discussions on the distinction between s*x and gender, along with practical reflections on how gender roles shape participation, opportunities, and leadership in the fisheries and aquaculture sector.

A standout moment was a fellow's personal story that offered an honest perspective on navigating her path into fisheries and aquaculture. It sparked meaningful conversations and grounded the session in real-life experiences.

Participants also explored gender roles across the fisheries value chain, identified existing gaps, and discussed actionable solutions to promote inclusion. The session highlighted inspiring examples of women making significant strides in leadership, entrepreneurship, and advocacy within the sector.

In addition, fellows were encouraged to invest in their personal development by building relevant skills, staying disciplined, and positioning themselves for opportunities.

We commend the University of Ibadan fellows for an engaging and impactful session and extend our sincere gratitude to the Africa Centre for Energy Policy for supporting this important initiative.
