From May 20th–22nd, 2026, Devatop Centre for Africa Development participated in a three-day capacity-building workshop aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s response to human trafficking and irregular migration.
Organized by FIAP and held in Abuja, the workshop brought together key stakeholders, including officers from the NSCDC’s Anti-Human Trafficking and Irregular Migration Unit (AHTIMU), NAPTIP, the Nigerian Immigration Service, and civil society organizations working to combat trafficking and protect vulnerable persons.
Representing DEVATOP at the workshop were Alheri Zwandor, our Case Manager, and Olukayode Israel, ICT Assistant, who actively engaged in sessions focused on legal frameworks around trafficking and migrant smuggling, trauma-informed survivor support, safe interception protocols, evidence gathering, and inter-agency collaboration.
A key highlight for DEVATOP came on the final day as we anchored a technical session on the TALKAM App. More than a presentation, the session became a practical experience as officers installed the app on their phones and laptops, explored its features, and conducted live mock reports simulating trafficking cases. The enthusiasm and engagement in the room reflected the growing potential of technology-driven solutions in strengthening field responses to trafficking.
The workshop concluded on a strong and promising note, with expressed interest in deeper collaboration, further training, and stronger partnerships to enhance anti-trafficking efforts across Nigeria.
