President Bola Tinubu has removed the names of individuals convicted of severe crimes, including kidnapping, drug offences, human trafficking, fraud, and illegal possession of fi****ms or trafficking, from the presidential pardon list.

The president, in a statement by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, says the decision follows consultations with the Council of State and public opinion on the matter. Onanuga says following the wide consultation, President Tinubu directed a further review of the initially approved list for consideration in furtherance of the President’s discretionary powers under Section 175(1)(&(2) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).

The pardon list generated reactions from various quarters, as persons with very serious crimes were initially pardoned.

The rising cost of rent, high agent fees, and other charges in Port Harcourt and neighbouring areas are becoming a worry for many residents, including the National Leader of the Rivers Grassroots Movement, Sobomabo Jackrich.

As such, he wants the Rivers State House of Assembly to urgently review the Rivers State Landlord and Tenants Law of 1991.

According to Jackrich, this will help curb what he calls exploitative practices by landlords and some real estate agents. He gave this indication at a stakeholders’ meeting via the group’s National Spokesman, Kelly Rufus.

Governor Fubara Visits Trans-Kalabari Road Site, Impressed with Pace of Work

Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara on Monday, October 27, 2025, visited the site of the ongoing 12.2-kilometre Trans-Kalabari Road Project, expressing satisfaction with the pace and quality of work being executed by Lubriks Construction Company.

During the inspection tour, the governor noted that piling work on Phase 1 of the project has reached about 75 percent completion, describing the progress as commendable.

“I personally came here to inspect this project. This is the Trans-Kalabari Road we flagged off about a year ago. I've been getting reports from the Ministry of Works, but I felt the need to come and see for myself what is happening here,” Governor Fubara said.

He explained that the first phase of the project, which extends to Bakana, includes four river-crossing bridges and nearly five decks on piles, adding that the difficult terrain has made the project technically demanding.

“With what I have seen, I can rightly confirm that almost 75 percent of the piling work, which is key to completing the road, has been achieved. By the grace of God, in the next six months, I am very positive that when we return for inspection, we might run through the bridge,” he added.

Governor Fubara reiterated his administration’s resolve to execute projects that will directly improve the lives of the people and promote even development across the state.

“This is a key project that will turn around the lives of the Kalabari people immediately it is completed,” he emphasized.

Omoyele Sowore is a Nigerian, yet he holds legal residency in the United States through his Green Card. His wife and two children are U.S. citizens. He is not poor, his family is not suffering. He is financially comfortable, even wealthy in both Naira and Dollars, and he lives a good life.

But here is the question: How many Nigerians, if they were in Sowore’s position, would be willing to risk their lives for the betterment of this country?

Let’s be honest if many Nigerians attained the kind of comfort, security, and opportunities Sowore enjoys, they would completely erase Nigeria from their hearts, minds, and souls. They would move on and never look back.

Yet despite his privileged status, Sowore remains a consistent voice for the oppressed and a genuine advocate for good governance. He speaks out when many choose silence. He stands firm when others retreat into comfort. We may not agree with everything he says his approach is often confrontational and bold but he deserves his flowers.

What is most painful is seeing poor and oppressed Nigerians using their own voices to badmouth someone who is fighting for them. Instead of support, they offer insults. Instead of appreciation, they spread hate.

May God Almighty have mercy on them and restore their sense of right and wrong.
