"No quarter" means refusing to show mercy, spare lives, or take prisoners during a conflict, often resulting in the ex*****on of enemies who surrender or are captured. It implies a fracas "fight to the death" where no surrender is accepted, and it is considered a war crime under international law.

Military terminology: It dates from 17th-century warfare, "quarter" to lodging or mercy granted to a defeated opponent but "no quarter" means no mercy or safe haven is provided.

Legal standing: Declaring no quarter is illegal under the Hague Conventions of 1899/1907 and the Geneva Conventions, as it forbids taking prisoners.

Historically used in piracy to mean killing all opponents (e.g., John Wick duel terminology).

It goes with taking no prisoners, granting no mercy, and acting without leniency.
