FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Ijaw Unity Watchdog Urges Delta State Governor to Intervene in Flooded Roads Across Burutu LGA

Warri, Delta State – Wednesday, July 30, 2025 – The Ijaw Unity Watchdog, a prominent non-governmental organization (NGO), has called on the Executive Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, to urgently address the deplorable condition of critical roads in Burutu Local Government Area, which have been devastated by flooding.

The group specifically highlighted Ogbobaigbene, Tamigbe, Torugbene, and Ojobo communities, where residents continue to suffer from limited access due to submerged and impassable roads worsened by seasonal floods.

During a press briefing in Warri, the leadership of the organization applauded Governor Oborevwori for the infrastructural development ongoing in Warri and its environs. However, they appealed to the state government to extend similar attention to Bolouru and other riverine communities, stressing the need for inclusive governance.

“We commend the Governor for his visible achievements in Warri, but we also plead with him to remember our people in Ogbobaigbene, Tamigbe, Torugbene, and Ojobo. The suffering is real. The roads are submerged, and the people are stranded. Immediate intervention is needed,” said a spokesperson for the Ijaw Unity Watchdog.

The group emphasized that awarding contracts for the construction and rehabilitation of these roads is critical and timely — especially as the 2027 general elections approach. They described it as the best path to demonstrating fairness and bridging the development gap in riverine areas.

They concluded by calling on Governor Oborevwori to demonstrate listening leadership by acting swiftly to mitigate the flood crisis and restore vital road infrastructure in Burutu LGA.

Proposed Toru-Ebe State: Ijaw Unity Watchdog Cries Out Over Non-Recognition of Ancient Tuomo Kingdom as LGA Headquarters — Makes Plea to Tinubu, Diri, NASS, INC, and Others

Tuomo, Delta State –
The Ijaw Unity Watchdog has expressed deep concern over the continued non-recognition of the ancient and historic Tuomo Kingdom as the rightful headquarters of a Local Government Area (LGA) in the proposed Toru-Ebe State. The group is appealing to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other key stakeholders to correct this longstanding oversight.

In a statement released by the group, they stated:

> "We believe that the recognition of Tuomo Kingdom, an ancient and respected Ijaw settlement, as the LGA headquarters in the proposed Toru-Ebe State is not only appropriate but long overdue. Tuomo has historically served as a center of unity, leadership, and cultural heritage among the Ijaw people."

They proposed Esuku-Ebe as the ideal headquarters for the proposed Toru-Ebe State and reaffirmed their belief that the formation of the state will bring governance closer to the grassroots and accelerate development in Ijaw land.

The group extended their appeal to:

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu

President of the Nigerian Senate and Members of the National Assembly (NASS)

Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State

Hon. Julius Pondi (Member, House of Representatives)

Sen. Joel Onowakpo Thomas

Ijaw National Congress (INC)

And other well-meaning Ijaw sons and daughters across the nation.

They emphasized that the recognition of Tuomo Kingdom as an LGA headquarters will not only be a matter of justice but a move that honors the legacy, peace, and resilience of the Ijaw people.

The Ijaw Unity Watchdog concluded by calling for unity and collective advocacy to ensure that the proposed Toru-Ebe State and its components reflect the will and history of the Ijaw Nation.

URGENT INTELLIGENCE ALERT: Whereabouts of Our Brother Unknown

An upright son of the Ijaw nation is currently under the watch of unidentified gunmen. His exact location remains unknown, and the situation is deeply concerning.

We call upon all security agencies, civil society organizations, and the global Ijaw community to rise in unity and demand his immediate and safe release.

This is a call to action.

Let it be clear: The Ijaw nation does not leave its own behind. Our brother must be returned alive, unharmed, and in full dignity to his family and loved ones.

Smooth addresses ljaw nation, urges Gov. Diri to do more, calls for accountable representation, lauds Sen. Dickson, Ogbuku for prioritizing the masses interest at heart

Chief Barrister S Smooth, the uncompromising voice of the Izon Nation, echoes the profound sentiments of Martin Luther King Jr., who once penned the powerful words: 'A time will come when history will remember not the actions of our enemies, but our silence in the face of injustice.' As a beacon of truth, Chief Barrister Smooth embodies the unwavering spirit of the Paddle, a natural-born Izon and Niger Delta musical hero who fearlessly speaks truth to power, unflinching in the face of adversity. On this historic day, June 18, 2025, the champion of freedom emerges once more, armed with an unrelenting passion for justice and a determination to set the records straight. In his characteristic manner, Chief Barrister Smooth declares...

"First and foremost, I want to extend my deepest gratitude to the magnificent Izon people for their unwavering support of the music industry over the years You are the lifeblood of our art, and every single one of you - from the esteemed leaders to the everyday citizens - holds a special place in my heart. Your enthusiasm, love, and patriotism have been the driving force behind our growth as musical artists, and I'm humbled by the impact you've had on our journey. Thank you for embracing us, for believing in us, and for allowing us to share our passion with the world.

To me, the root of our challenges as a people doesn't lie with the ordinary citizens or entrepreneurs, but rather with our politicians who prioritize their own self-interest above all else. However, amidst the darkness, a beacon of hope shines bright - Senator Henry Seriake Dickson. In the halls of the National Assembly, he has proven himself to be a champion of the Izon people, unwaveringly advocating for our interests beyond partisan lines. His commitment to our collective well-being is reminiscent of the legendary PA E.K. Clark, a hero who left an indelible mark on our nation. As we navigate these treacherous waters, it's imperative that we rally behind Senator Dickson, ensuring his continued representation in the Senate. With various tribes vying for influence over the soul of the Izon Nation, we must stand united in support of a leader who genuinely has our best interests at heart.

Similarly, another name that resonates deeply is Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, the visionary Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC). He has distinguished himself as a true son of the region, a leader who has boldly confronted the challenges of underdevelopment and sparked transformative change. Under his stewardship, the once-dark region is being illuminated, evolving into a thriving paradise. Unlike his predecessors who prioritized personal gain, Dr. Ogbuku's leadership is marked by a willingness to listen and collaborate. He's approachable, open to innovative ideas, and committed to supporting initiatives that benefit the community. His dedication to the region's progress is a beacon of hope, and it's essential that we rally behind him to ensure the continued development and growth of our beloved Izon Nation.

Then coming to Delta State, I'd like to extend my heartfelt appreciation to the individuals who generously support the music industry, investing their hard-earned resources to help us thrive. Their philanthropic efforts speak volumes about their character, and we're grateful for their contributions. However, the same cannot be said for our elected representatives. It's disheartening to see that instead of championing our collective interests, they prioritize lining their own pockets. They flaunt their ill-gotten wealth, buying lavish properties and boasting of their stolen riches. It's time for us to hold them accountable and demand better representation. Let's exercise vigilance and discernment in the upcoming elections, ensuring that we send leaders who genuinely prioritize our needs and well-being.

Well to our teeming viewers of our one and only indegenous Izon Egberibo TV, we appreciate your patience and understanding regarding the temporary pause in live streaming services. We're taking this time to refine and perfect our craft, ensuring that when we return, we'll be stronger and more impactful than ever.

Lastly to our esteemed Governor, Senator Douye Diri, we humbly express our concerns. As a leader who emerged from the foundation of the Izon struggle INC, we expected more support for the music industry, which plays a vital role in shaping the region's culture and development. While we acknowledge your efforts in building infrastructure, we urge you to consider the people who will inhabit and benefit from these structures. The musician's voice is crucial in bringing life and vibrancy to our communities especially in the days of the struggle yet you decided to look the other way.

As the Governor General of the Izon Nation, we implore you to awaken to your paternal duty to nurture and support the music industry beyond mere rhetoric. Your ascension to power as I once said is a divine appointment, and we believe you have the capacity to lead with love, kindness, and a deep understanding of the people's needs. We yearn for a leadership that prioritizes the living, recognizing that life is meant to be celebrated and enjoyed, not just endured. I implore you to do more, for by my assessment you have not done enough and the truth must be told, the people are suffering including your political benefactors who for fear of you hid in shame.

I am the Paddle. Author of truth and Fairness.

Ijaw Unity Watchdog (IUW) Calls on Burutu LGA Chairman Over Tuomo Community Leadership Dispute

Tuomo, Delta State – June 12/2025

The Ijaw Unity Watchdog (IUW) has issued a formal appeal to Chief Dr. Julius Takeme, Chairman of the Burutu Local Government Area, urging his immediate intervention in a manner that respects the traditional processes surrounding the ongoing leadership dispute in the Tuomo Federated Community.

The dispute centers on the Amananaowei stool—Tuomo’s traditional leadership seat. In January 2025, the community unanimously reaffirmed the election of Chief Ebikapaye Agidee as Amananaowei, citing adherence to Tuomo’s longstanding rotational leadership structure.

However, tensions flared when Chief Takeme ordered a fresh election and directed the community's transition committee to delay the process, citing unresolved legal issues. This move has drawn criticism from sections of the community, particularly the Akerebunou quarters, a prominent subgroup, which has publicly reaffirmed its support for Chief Agidee. They have accused the local government of unwarranted interference in purely traditional matters.

In a calm and conciliatory statement, the Ijaw Unity Watchdog called on Chairman Takeme to respect the autonomy and cultural heritage of the Tuomo people. The group emphasized the need for dialogue, peaceful resolution, and the upholding of indigenous governance systems in resolving the dispute.

“The Ijaw Unity Watchdog is calling on the Burutu LGA Chairman to do the needful—withdraw political interference and allow the Tuomo community to exercise its right to select its leader through established customs,” the group stated. “Cultural integrity and community peace must remain paramount.”

IUW concluded its statement by urging Chief Takeme to “remove his hands from the Amananaowei election process” and support pathways that foster harmony, not division, in Tuomo.

Ijaw Unity Watchdog Raises Alarm Over Threats to Ijaw Communities in Warri South LGA

Warri, Delta State – [Date 12, 2025]

The Ijaw Unity Watchdog has issued a distress call to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State, and all relevant security agencies, seeking urgent intervention following alleged threats from Michael Diden, also known as Ejele, the purported leader of the Iwere cult groups.

According to credible reports received by the watchdog group, Ejele is allegedly planning violent attacks targeted at Ijaw communities within Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State. This alleged plot has triggered deep concern and anxiety among Ijaw residents, who now fear for their safety.

Communities reportedly under threat include:

NPA Community

Ogbokoune

Ogbe Ijoh Market

Olabrakopre

Various other Ijaw settlements and streets in Warri South LGA

The Ijaw Unity Watchdog is calling on the Nigerian Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigerian Army, and the Niger Delta security authorities to act swiftly and prevent any outbreak of violence or breach of peace in the area.

> “We are peace-loving people, but we will not fold our arms and watch our communities being threatened and intimidated. The government must ensure our people are protected and that no group is above the law,” the group said in a statement.

The Watchdog also emphasized the need for urgent dialogue, preventive security deployment, and justice for any individuals or communities harmed in the course of these threats.
