*NIA AKWA IBOM STATE CHAPTER TOURS AKICORP BUILDING PROJECT*
The Nigerian Institute of Architects (NIA), Akwa Ibom State embarked on a technical visit to the Akwa Ibom Investment Corporation (AKICORP) Corporate Headquarters building project located along Dominic Utuk Avenue, Uyo on 12 August 2026.
The visit forms part of the Chapter’s scheduled technical tours of major infrastructure projects being executed under the ARISE Agenda of the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno, PhD.
The initiative is aimed at promoting professional engagement, knowledge sharing, and appreciation of quality architectural, engineering and construction practices across the State.
The AKICORP Corporate Headquarters is a two-storey office building complex and represents one of the notable infrastructure interventions of the present administration. The project demonstrates the transformation of a previously erosion-prone and environmentally challenged landform into a functional and significant corporate development, reflecting the administration’s commitment to infrastructural renewal and sustainable urban development.
Speaking during the visit, Arc Edidiong Ukpong PhD FNIA, Chair, NIA Akwa Ibom State Chapter commended His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno PhD, for the laudable project and other ongoing infrastructural developments across the State including the Arise Palm Resort and the Proposed AKBC Building Project. He encouraged the consultants, Snaeder Engineering, to maintain close coordination with the contractor, Eyo Concepts, to ensure that the project is delivered in accordance with the specified standards, quality requirements and professional expectations.
The Chair, further called for improved provision and consistent use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) by all personnel working on site, stressing the importance of maintaining a safety-conscious working environment throughout the construction period.
He also acknowledged with appreciation the presence and contributions of NIA members within both the consultant and contractor teams, noting that their involvement reflects the active participation of architects in the delivery of major projects within the State.
The team emphasized the need for project site information board to prominently display all project particulars for public information and transparency.
Additionally, the team advised that all approved working drawings be made available and properly displayed in the designated site office. The need for effective site housekeeping was further emphasized to ensure safety compliance and unimpeded functional circulation within the site.
The NIA Akwa Ibom State Chapter equally commended the project team for providing opportunities for architecture students undergoing Industrial Training (IT) to gain practical exposure on the project site. The Chapter noted that such opportunities are essential in bridging the gap between academic training and professional practice, while equipping future architects with firsthand knowledge of construction processes, project coordination, site management and professional standards.
