*🚨 URGENT SECURITY ALERT – PLEASE BE VIGILANT 🚨*

Greetings, dear colleagues.

Our attention has been urgently drawn to multiple fraudulent activities currently targeting our colleagues on WhatsApp and via phone calls.

*⚠️ SCAM ALERT 1 – FALSE NANNM MEETING*

An individual using the phone number +234-904 164 7121 is contacting some of our colleagues, reportedly posing as Mrs. Florence from NANNM and falsely claiming that there is an online NANNM meeting scheduled for 8:00 p.m. tomorrow.

We strongly suspect this to be an attempt to scam colleagues and gain access to their WhatsApp accounts.

Please be extremely vigilant:

- ❌ DO NOT share any WhatsApp verification code (OTP) with anyone.
- ❌ Do not click on suspicious links.
- ❌ Do not follow instructions from unknown callers or messages.
- ❌ Do not disclose your password, PIN, personal information, or security details.
- 🚫 If contacted by the suspected number, block and report it immediately.
- 📢 Please alert colleagues who may not yet be aware of this scam.

*⚠️ SCAM ALERT 2 – FALSE REQUEST FOR ₦120,000*

We have also received information that another fraudster is currently reaching out to colleagues on Platform 2, making the following request:

*I wanted to send money to someone.* *The network is bad. Please help me to send it. I will refund it back tomorrow morning. ₦120k.”»*❌❌

*10 MISTAKES PEOPLE MAKE WHEN APPLYING FOR UK VISA*

Applying for a UK visa for study, work, business, or family relocation is a major task. While online forms may look simple, Home Office staff follow very strict rules. Every small detail must match the official rules exactly to avoid problems with the application.

*CONTENTS*

Many applications face delays or refusals every year due to simple mistakes. These errors can lead to long bans from making future requests. The visa process depends on proof that can be checked. Missing files, wrong formatting, or incorrect math often lead to an automatic refusal.

The list below explains the ten most common mistakes found in the UK visa process and how to avoid them. Following these steps helps ensure that the submission is as strong and accurate as possible for the review.

*Non-compliance with financial requirements*

Financial checks are a main reason for a visa denial. Rules about when money is placed in an account must be followed closely. It is vital to show that funds have been held for the required time.

The 28-Day Rule means that funds must stay at or above the needed level for 28 days in a row. Any drop in the balance during this time leads to a refusal. Consistency is key for financial proof. The 31-Day Rule means that the last date on a bank statement must be no more than 31 days before the day the online application is sent. Statements that are too old will be rejected.

*Late deposit of funds*

Borrowing money just to show a high bank balance is easy for officials to spot. The Home Office checks the history of the account, not just the final total. They look for where the money came from.

Sudden, large amounts of money added just before the 28-day period often cause doubt. Real funds, like an inheritance or a gift, must have proof like a lawyer’s letter. Without this, big deposits can hurt the case.

*Submission of incorrect english language certificates*

Visa types require different levels of English skill. Picking the wrong test can lead to a quick refusal. It is necessary to get a Secure English Language Test (SELT) from an approved test center for the application.

Basic school tests are often not enough. Also, checking that the test level; like B1 or B2, matches the specific visa type is vital. Using the wrong level is a very common reason for a failed application.

Checking the official list of approved centers, such as IELTS for UKVI or PTE Academic UKVI, is highly recommended before a booking is made. This ensures the certificate will be accepted by the Home Office.

*Discrepancies between forms and supporting documents*

Visa officers check if the online forms match the uploaded files. Even small differences can cause a rejection. It is important to check that all facts are the same across all documents.

Ensure job titles and salary details match across the application form, work contract, and sponsorship papers. A full travel history for every past trip must be provided, especially when passport stamps exist, as missing trips can seem dishonest. Additionally, if names differ on bank records, school certificates, or passports, include official proof, such as a marriage certificate or a legal name change document, to confirm identity.

*Selecting the incorrect visa or improper switching*

Not all visa types allow for a status change while remaining in the UK, so understanding the rules for a specific visa is important to avoid an illegal stay. For example, Standard Visitor or Short-Term Student visas prohibit status changes inside the UK; applications must instead be made from the home country. However, those holding Graduate visas or having finished a degree under a Student visa are usually permitted to switch to a work visa, provided a valid job offer has been secured. Always verify the rules for a specific visa class to ensure compliance.

*Failure to provide certified translations*

Proof; such as a birth paper or a bank file that is not in English or Welsh must have a professional translation. This is a strict requirement for all foreign language documents provided.

This translation must have a note on accuracy, the translator’s details and skills, and a date and signature. Without a proper translation, the file may be ignored, which can lead to a visa refusal.

*Non-disclosure of past visa or legal issues*

Forms ask for facts on past visa refusals, overstaying, or any legal trouble. Immigration facts are shared between many countries. It is critical to include all history to avoid being seen as dishonest.

Lying or hiding past issues often leads to a refusal and a 10-year ban. Being honest is the best path; a past refusal does not always mean a new one, but a lie on the form definitely will.

*Use of unauthorised financial proof*

The Home Office needs proof of money that can be used right away. Financial proof must be held as cash that is easy to reach. Non-cash assets are generally not counted for these rules.

The following are usually not accepted: stocks, bonds, crypto, house value, credit card limits, or accounts in banks that are not regulated. Only liquid cash should be used for the application.

*Poor documentation standards*

The way files are sent affects how fast the review goes. Messy, blurry, or badly named files make the check harder. Clear scans and organized files help ensure a smoother review process.

A “Statement of Purpose” should be clear and focused on why the course or job is being taken. PDFs should be named simply (like Bank_Statement.pdf) so the officer can find them easily.

*Omission of biometrics or fee payments*

Sending the online form is only the first step. A biometric meeting for photos and fingerprints must be attended, and all costs must be paid. The application is not finished until these are done.

Failing to pay the health fee (IHS) stops the process. Also, missing a biometric meeting on time can make an application expire. It is vital to finish every step in the correct order.

Checking for emails, including in the spam folder, is very important. Requests for more info often have tight deadlines. Missing a deadline can result in an immediate refusal of the visa.

*Final checklist before submission*

Before finalizing your application, ensure all requirements are met: verify that funds have been held for at least 28 consecutive days and bank statements are dated within the last 31 days.

Additionally, include professional translations for all non-English documents, honestly disclose any past visa refusals or legal issues, and confirm your English proficiency test results match the specific requirements of your visa type.

IBOM NURSES' FORUM DECLARES SOLIDARITY WITH UUTH NURSES OVER ASSAULT ON TWO NURSES

The Akwa Ibom Nurses' Forum (AINF) stands in unwavering solidarity with the nurses of the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital (UUTH) following the reported assault on two nurses by a patient's relative while carrying out their professional duties.

We fully support the decision of the UUTH nurses to withdraw their services in protest against this unacceptable act of violence. No nurse or healthcare professional should be subjected to intimidation, harassment, or physical assault in the course of providing care to patients.

Violence against healthcare workers undermines the delivery of quality healthcare, threatens the safety and morale of frontline professionals, and should never be tolerated under any circumstance.

We therefore call on the management of the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital, relevant security agencies, and the Government to:

1. Ensure a thorough investigation into the incident and bring the perpetrator(s) to justice.

2. Strengthen security measures within healthcare facilities to protect nurses and all healthcare professionals.

3. Implement and enforce policies that provide a safe and secure working environment for healthcare workers.

4. Take all necessary actions to prevent a recurrence of such unfortunate incidents.

*NIGERIAN GOVERNMENT TO INAUGURATE NEW GOVERNING BOARD FOR THE NURSING AND MIDWIFERY COUNCIL OF NIGERIA (NMCN)*

The Federal Government of Nigeria will today, 18 June 2026, inaugurate a new Governing Board for the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) in Abuja, with Dr. (Mrs.) Alice Ogundele assuming office as Chairman of the Board.

This development marks an important milestone for Nigeria's nursing and midwifery profession at a time when the health sector is confronted with several pressing challenges, including:

- Persistent shortages of nurses and midwives across health facilities;
- The growing migration of healthcare professionals to other countries in pursuit of better opportunities;
- Concerns surrounding the regulation, accreditation, and monitoring of nursing and midwifery training institutions; and
- The need to strengthen professional standards, ethical practice, and continuing professional development.

The 21-member Board is expected to provide strategic direction for the Council, reinforce regulatory mechanisms, promote excellence in nursing and midwifery education, and champion initiatives aimed at improving workforce retention and the quality of healthcare services nationwide.
