Building Safe Spaces: YOFCI and RIOHI Take GBV Awareness to Schools

Youth for Change Initiative (YOFCI), in collaboration with Rare Impact on Health Initiative (RIOHI), carried out a Gender-Based Violence (GBV) sensitization session at Star Champion International School, Osse Offot, Nwaniba, Akwa Ibom State.

The interactive session was designed to equip students with the knowledge and confidence to recognize, prevent, and respond appropriately to different forms of violence. Participants were enlightened on sexual assault, emotional abuse, verbal abuse, and other forms of Gender-Based Violence, while also learning practical ways to protect themselves and seek help when necessary.

At YOFCI, we believe that creating awareness among young people is a critical step toward building safer schools and communities. By empowering students with the right information, we are helping to break the culture of silence and promote respect, dignity, and accountability.

We appreciate our partner, Rare Impact on Health Initiative (RIOHI), the management of Star Champion International School, and the students for their active participation and commitment to becoming ambassadors against GBV.

Together, we can prevent violence, protect lives, and build a future where every child feels safe and valued.

Why Was the VAPP Law Created?

For many years, victims of violence suffered in silence because there were limited legal protections against certain forms of abuse.

The VAPP Law was created to:

1. Protect victims.
2. Hold offenders accountable.
3. Promote human rights.
4. Reduce violence in society.

*Violence is a crime, not a private matter.*
