Bluegreen ISDN Honors Two Teachers with Eco-Friendly Teacher of the Year Awards

As part of the activities marking World Zero Waste Day, Bluegreen Initiative for Sustainable Development Network honored two teachers from Community Secondary School, Nkek, on Friday, March 27, 2026. The teachers were recognized as the Eco-Friendly Teachers of the Year.

The teachers, Mr. Uduak Udoidiong and Elder Monday Sunday, were celebrated for their invaluable contributions to the successful implementation of the Bottle Toilet Project at the school.

The Bottle Toilet Project is an ecological masterpiece and the first of its kind in Akwa Ibom State. It repurposed over 18,000 PET bottles into a modern WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) facility. The project aims to promote girl-child school enrollment, foster environmental sustainability, and combat climate change.

Local Youth Empowered as Guardians of Tradition and Nature in Eastern Obolo

In a vibrant celebration of culture and conservation, BluegreenISDN, in partnership with CSDevNet, marked World Wetlands Day 2026 in the Emere-oke Kingdom, Eastern Obolo LGA, under the theme: “Wetlands and Traditional Knowledge: Celebrating Cultural Heritage.”

This year, the focus shifted from awareness to action, placing youth at the heart of wetland preservation. Intensive training sessions bridged ancestral wisdom with modern conservation techniques, empowering young custodians to protect their environment while honoring their heritage.

From Conservation to Commerce: The Beehive Initiative
Beehives were donated to the community, creating a sustainable source of income while boosting local biodiversity. Managed by the youth, the initiative enhances pollination, reduces pressure on aquatic resources, and supports the economic empowerment of women and fisherfolk in Emere-oke.

“Our goal is to ensure that the people of Emere-oke are not just observers of conservation, but active participants who benefit from it.” – BluegreenISDN

About the Partners:

BluegreenISDN: Driving resilient communities through innovative environmental solutions.

CSDevNet: Championing climate justice and sustainable development across Nigeria.

This initiative proves that when tradition meets innovation, communities and nature thrive together.

As part of the activities to mark the world wetlands Day, 2026, our team shall be returning to Emere-oke kingdom in Eastern Obolo to consolidate on our previous engagement on sustainable Wetlands ecosystem management.

Recall, during the 2025 edition of WWD, we were in the community to train them on alternative livelihoods through bee keeping.

This year, we are building more on that, till the issues of complete dependence on the Wetlands ecosystem are addressed.

Thanks to Climate & Sustainable Development Network of Nigeria for their continued partnership and support.

BlueGreenISDN Commends Rep. Idem for Championing Environmental Justice in Akwa Ibom

BlueGreenISDN, an organization dedicated to environmental sustainability, climate change advocacy, and accountability, applauds the Honourable Member representing Ukanafun/Oruk Anam Federal Constituency, Rt. Hon. Unyime Idem, PhD for his impactful legislative intervention. His motion urging federal intervention in the oil spillage and environmental devastation in Idung Urom Isor, Obon Odor, Edem Idim, and neighbouring communities (Ukanafun, Akwa Ibom State) marks a bold step toward redressing decades of neglect of these communities in the Niger Delta.

The call for investigation, remediation, and compensation by agencies like NOSDRA, NNPCL, and NDDC is a landmark stride for environmental justice and sustainable development. BlueGreenISDN particularly commends the Honourable Member’s empathy, integrity, and responsiveness, qualities that exemplify true leadership. By prioritizing his constituents’ welfare and the environment, he sets a precedent for governance rooted in compassion, accountability, and justice.

We look forward to partnering with the Honourable Member and relevant agencies to drive clean-up, restoration, and sustainable livelihood initiatives, ensuring this legislative milestone translates into lasting impact for affected communities.
