Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord"
A hard day's work is an accomplishment. We come home, tired as tired can be, seeking a little rest from our labors. We work hard, physically or mentally, and push ourselves to the limit. But when payday arrives, all of the pain is worth it. We see the benefits of our labors and we know we have not worked so hard for nothing. In this verse, Paul encourages the believers to keep working for the Lord. He exhorts them to be "steadfast" and assures them that their toil will not be in vain. Sometimes, as Christians, we work hard for Christ. We pour ourselves into His service. We minister in His name. We pray. We study. We counsel. And sometimes we grow weary when the harvest eludes us. We, too, can take heart in this verse. There will be a payday someday, when we will finally see the reward for our service. At that moment, it'll be worth it all.
