SENATOR ANIEKAN BASSEY TAKES EDUCATION TO THE GRASSROOTS, LAUNCHES FREE JAMB REGISTRATION ACROSS AKWA IBOM NORTH-EAST

The Senator representing Akwa Ibom North-East Senatorial District, Senator Aniekan Bassey, has rolled out a free JAMB/Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) registration programme for students across the district.

The exercise is aimed at breaking financial barriers that continue to deny many brilliant but indigent students the opportunity to pursue higher education, especially at the grassroots level.

According to the Senator in a statement, the exercise will run from January 26 to February 23, 2026, with daily registration taking place between 10:00am and 4:00pm at designated centres within the district.

“Eligible candidates are expected to present their National Identification Number (NIN), O-Level results (one or two sittings), and certificate of origin. Participation is strictly reserved for students from the local government areas that make up the Akwa Ibom North-East Senatorial District,” the statement noted.

“This intervention is part of my broader philosophy that education remains the strongest weapon for empowerment, poverty reduction, and long-term development. I believe that no child should be denied access to tertiary education simply because of financial hardship.”

Speaking about the importance of the exercise, the Director General of Team Aniekan Bassey, Obong Godwin Awah, Ph.D, said “the exercise aligns with Governor Umo Eno’s ARISE Agenda, particularly in the areas of human capital development and youth inclusion, reinforcing a shared vision of building a productive, educated, and future-ready Akwa Ibom State.”

Obong Awah urged parents, students, community leaders, and youth groups across the senatorial district to mobilize and take full advantage of the opportunity.

SENATOR ANIEKAN BASSEY’S RHAB-YESS FOUNDATION SPARKS ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE THROUGH RESEARCH EMPOWERMENT

Chairman of the Senate Committee on Diaspora and NGOs, Senator Aniekan Bassey, has been commended for his unparalleled support to academic research through grants that empower scholars across Akwa Ibom State, using his pet project, the RHAB-YESS Foundation.

Dr. Uduakobong Inyang, a lecturer in the Department of Insurance and Risk Management at the University of Uyo, has expressed deep appreciation to the Bassey for the ₦5 million research grant he received from the Foundation in September 2023.

The grant, according to Dr. Inyang, has been instrumental in driving groundbreaking research in the areas of Insurance, Risk Management, and Management Sciences.

Through the RHAB-YESS-funded grant, Dr. Inyang successfully executed and published multiple high-impact research works that now contribute to global academic knowledge and practical applications in Nigeria’s insurance industry.

Dr Inyang further mentioned the publications to include “Perceptive Influence of Purchasing Motor Vehicle Insurance Policy from Non-regulated Firms on the Performance of Insurance Industry in Nigeria: A Customer-Based Sentiment Analysis (Read here).”
Others include “Epistemological Schools of Thought and Risk Management Research (Read here); Exposures of Point-of-Sales Micro-Enterprises to Operational Risk in a Rural Area in Nigeria (Read here); and Employees’ Assessment of the Influence of Management Information Systems on Operational Efficiency of Insurance Companies (Read here).”
According to Dr. Inyang, the research grant not only facilitated the purchase of key materials and fieldwork activities but also opened doors for collaboration with scholars within and outside the University of Uyo, enhancing the visibility and impact of Akwa Ibom’s academic community on the global stage.

He emphasized that Senator Bassey’s commitment to promoting research, innovation, and intellectual development remains an inspiration to young academics who aspire to drive societal progress through knowledge creation.

“Your initiative of providing grants to support research as a means of empowering academics in your senatorial district vis-a-vis Akwa Ibom State is the first of its kind and highly commendable. The outcomes of these projects will meaningfully contribute to both academic knowledge and real-world solutions in insurance and risk management,” Dr Inyang noted.

Through the RHAB-YESS Research Grant, and many other initiatives of the Foundation, Senator Bassey has continued to demonstrate that empowering minds is the most sustainable form of empowerment, one that fuels innovation, transforms communities, and builds a knowledge-driven future for Akwa Ibom and Nigeria at large.

EMPOWERMENT: SENATOR ANIEKAN BASSEY’S DIGITAL AND CAREER TRAINING PROGRAMME ENDS WITH FINAL MODULE ON “IMPLEMENTING GOOGLE WORKSPACE IN BUSINESS”

The four-week digital and career empowerment programme, an initiative of Senator Aniekan Bassey, who represents Akwa Ibom North-East Senatorial District, officially concluded on Friday, July 18, 2025.

Representing the Senator at the closing ceremony was Mr. Peter Bassey, Chief Executive Officer of IPKISS Investment Company.

Fully funded by Senator Bassey through his flagship initiative, the RHAB-YESS Foundation, the programme was delivered in collaboration with ImpactHER, a globally recognized non-profit organization committed to equipping African youth and women entrepreneurs with essential skills.

The intensive training featured a robust curriculum covering modern, high-impact modules such as Building a Personal Brand, Navigating the World of Work, Online Job Search Strategies, Crafting a Professional Resume, Using AI for Content Creation, Running Facebook Ads, and concluded with Implementing Google Workspace in Business.

Commenting on the programme's significance, Mr. Darlington Udobong, Programme Director of the RHAB-YESS Foundation, noted that the initiative went far beyond mere skills acquisition.

“This programme is a reflection of Senator Aniekan Bassey’s unwavering dedication to youth development. It’s about equipping young people to become solution providers, innovators, and active contributors in the evolving digital economy,” he stated.

“AI FOR CONTENT CREATION” TAKES CENTRE STAGE AT WEEK-THREE OF SENATOR ANIEKAN BASSEY’S DIGITAL SKILLS TRAINING

As the ongoing Digital Skills and Career Development Training in Uyo enters its third week, participants, on Tuesday, were exposed to the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in content creation, one of the most transformative tools in the modern digital economy.

Giving insight on the event, the Programme Director of the RHAB-YESS Foundation, Mr. Darlington Udobong, said the initiative goes beyond just imparting technical know-how on the participants, who are youth of the Akwa Ibom North-East Senatorial District.

“The training, now in its annual cycle, is a flagship initiative of Senator Aniekan Bassey, representing the Akwa Ibom North-East Senatorial District. It is fully sponsored through his RHAB-YESS Foundation, in partnership with ImpactHER, a globally acclaimed non-profit that supports African youth and women entrepreneurs,” he explained.

Mr. Udobong further said that the programme and many other initiatives of Senator Aniekan Bassey serve as a catalyst for digital empowerment and innovation across the district, equipping participants with the knowledge and skills to thrive in the ever-evolving digital landscape.
