YouthRISE Nigeria is proud to contribute to the development of a national protocol for the evaluation of Harm Reduction programmes in Nigeria. 🇳🇬

This important evaluation will assess the effectiveness, efficiency, and impact of Harm Reduction services, with a focus on Needle and Syringe Programmes (NSP), naloxone, and Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) for People Who Inject Drugs (PWID).

By strengthening evidence and accountability, we can better understand what works, identify gaps, and improve access to quality, people-centred Harm Reduction services across Nigeria.

Evidence. Evaluation. Better services. Better outcomes.

Today, 31 August, is International Overdose Awareness Day! 25 years on, and still needed.

In Nigeria, tramadol is leading the crisis, and the numbers are real: 14.3 million Nigerians used a drug in the past year, nearly 3 times the global average, and opioids are now our leading cause of fatal overdose.

The true toll is hidden by stigma. But overdose is preventable, and we already have proof:

🗳️ Building informed voters. Empowering young voices. Strengthening communities.

YouthRISE Nigeria is implementing CivicReady: Empowering Out-of-School Youth for Electoral Participation in FCT, Abuja—a project designed to equip young people with the knowledge, confidence, and skills to participate meaningfully in civic and electoral processes.

Through our recently concluded capacity-building programme, 30 community peer educators were equipped with practical knowledge and skills, with a commitment to cascade this learning to 300 more young people in their communities.

The training brought together key learning areas, including:

🗳️ Civic & Electoral Education — voter registration, electoral rights, peaceful participation, and active citizenship, with facilitators from INEC.

⚖️ Human Rights & Advocacy — understanding civic rights, community mobilization, and the power of collective action.

This is more than a training—it is about creating informed, engaged, and empowered young citizens who can become catalysts for positive change in their communities. 🌍✊🏾

30 trained. 300 to reach. One stronger civic community.

Earlier today, YouthRISE Nigeria met with the leadership of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) to explore strategic partnerships around skill development for young people.

Through our Drop-In Centres (DICs), we remain committed to bringing accessible, practical, and market-relevant skills directly to young people and vulnerable communities across Nigeria.

Partnering with national TVET frameworks allows us to bridge the gap between youth empowerment and sustainable economic opportunities.

Together, we are building pathways toward self-reliance and inclusive growth for Nigerian youths.
