On tuesday, 9th June, ITPD took its first official step into the community we exist to serve.

Our Founder and Executive Director, Mr Ekeoma Onwukwe Samuel, addressed the monthly meeting of JONAPWD Umuahia South chapter, reaching over 30 persons with disabilities with one simple message:

Your vote. Your right. Your power.

With the INEC Continuous Voter Registration exercise ongoing and the July 10, 2026 deadline approaching, we encouraged PWDs to claim their place in Nigeria's democracy.

The conversation sparked important discussions on: πŸ—³οΈ Access to voter registration 🀟 Sign language interpreters at polling units πŸ‘οΈ Braille accessibility for blind voters βš–οΈ The legal rights of persons with disabilities in public spaces.

Most importantly, seven persons with disabilities who had not yet registered were immediately referred to the INEC office to begin the process. We will follow up until they have their PVCs

This is what inclusion looks like: informed citizens, accessible systems, and voices that are heard.

To every person with a disability in Abia State and Nigeria in general: Get your PVC.

Your voice matters.

Your vote counts.

πŸ“ INEC registration is ongoing at your nearest LGA office. ⏰ Deadline: 10th July, 2026
You can also register online.

πŸ’œ A midweek reminder for every person with a disability who has had to work twice as hard for half the recognition.

Nobody handed things to you.

You fought for every inch of it.

And that makes it yours.

Completely. πŸ”₯

Every qualification earned in an inaccessible institution.

Every job secured in a workplace that almost turned you away.

Every relationship built with people who had to first unlearn what they thought they knew about you.

Every single day navigated in a country still learning to include you.

That is not ordinary resilience.

That is extraordinary. πŸ’œ

ITPD sees you. We celebrate you. And we will keep fighting to build the Nigeria that matches the effort you pour into it every single day.

Share this with someone who needs to hear it today. πŸ‘‡πŸ™

Get your PVC!

The leaders who make decisions about accessibility, about disability legislation, about healthcare, about education and about inclusion are elected by voters.

When persons with disabilities do not vote, the people making decisions about their lives are chosen without their input.

ITPD cannot allow that. πŸ’œ

The PVC registration exercise is ongoing and closes 10th July 2026.

That is your window.

Please do not let it close without acting.

If you have your PVC already drop a βœ… in the comments.

If you haven't tell us what is stopping you. Let's find a solution together. πŸ‘‡

πŸ’œ Good morning and welcome to a new week ITPD family!

Nigeria has made progress.

We will not pretend otherwise.

Laws have been passed. Conversations have started.

Awareness is growing.

But progress and arrival are not the same thing. πŸ”₯

The door of inclusion is open but for millions of Nigerians with disabilities, the path to that door is still riddled with barriers:

πŸ”Ή Inaccessible roads and public spaces
πŸ”Ή Schools that were not built for every child
πŸ”Ή Workplaces that do not accommodate, include or promote
πŸ”Ή Healthcare facilities that overlook the specific needs of persons with disabilities
πŸ”Ή A civic system that does not always make participation easy or possible

At ITPD we celebrate every open door. And we keep pushing until every Nigerian with a disability can walk through it freely, safely and with full dignity. πŸ’œ

What door do you wish was more open for persons with disabilities in Nigeria?

Today is World Environment Day and ITPD has something important to add to this conversation. πŸ’œ

When the world talks about building better, greener, more sustainable environments β€” we must also be talking about building accessible ones.

Because what good is a beautiful park that a wheelchair user cannot enter?

What good is a public transport system that a person with a visual impairment cannot safely navigate?

What good is a newly constructed building that has no ramp, no accessible toilet, no consideration for persons with disabilities?

A sustainable environment must also be an inclusive one. πŸ”₯

On this World Environment Day, ITPD is calling on urban planners, architects, government agencies and community leaders across Nigeria to make one commitment:

That every environment you build, rebuild or improve is built for every Nigerian including the over 25 million living with a disability.

Because accessibility is not an add-on.

It is not a luxury.

It is not optional.

It is the difference between a public space and a space that is actually public. πŸ’œ

There is a gap in Nigeria between how persons with disabilities are seen and how they deserve to be treated.

They are seen as objects of pity.

They deserve to be seen as citizens with full rights. πŸ’œ

They are seen as burdens on their families.

They deserve to be seen as contributors to their communities.

They are seen as people to be managed.
They deserve to be seen as people to be included. πŸ”₯

They are seen as an afterthought in policy discussions.

They deserve to be seen as central voices in every conversation that affects their lives
This gap between perception and reality, between law and implementation, between Nigeria as it is and Nigeria as it should be is exactly what ITPD exists to close.

Every day.
Every week.
Every post.
Every conversation. πŸ’œ

We will keep closing it until it no longer exists.

What gap have YOU witnessed in your community?

Tell us in the comments. πŸ‘‡
