ROTARY : THE BEAUTY OF JUNE

In Rotary, the month of June comes with feelings of excitement over the opportunity to render service to humanity within a Rotary year. In this regard, the District Governors and club Presidents are expected to render full report on their stewardship and readiness to handover to their successors; District Governor and President Elects respectively.

It is the time hard realities about leadership and service, loudly stare at faces of leaders whilst appreciating the challenge of leading their respective districts/clubs in a Rotary year. Which is why the beauty of June speaks in diverse ways viz:

1. It is not a respecter of excuses for lack of service.
2. It leaves no room for tenure extension.
3. The experience of service above self, club growth and development become glaring and inspiring.
4. Positive impact must be felt in respective communities and applauded by both the District and Rotary International.
5. It marks the end of a tenure and stepping platform to 1st July; the beginning of a new Rotary year.

Underscored against the preceding, the beauty of June implicitly resonates in the capacity of an outgoing District Governor and his team as well as President and board to have demonstrated service above self, and how much they carried the entire District/membership along in their programs/activities, to the extent that, members will always look forward to the next District program or club fellowship/activity.

No doubt, the month of June, reifies the mandate of service to humanity and strengthens the foundation for happiness, Goodwill and better friendship at both the club, District and Rotary worldwide.

As this Rotary year winds down, Iet me use this medium to thank the District Governor, Rotary International District 9112 – 2025-2026 Rotary Year Rtn. Lanre Adedoyin and my Unite for Good club president - Rtn. Chidozie Ofoegbu for the landmark achievements recorded in the outgoing Rotary year 2025-2026, covering Rotary Areas of Focus.

DISCON 2026

The District Conference (DisCon) bears resemblance to any popular community socio-cultural festival, uniting members worldwide to celebrate peace, fruitfulness, culture, and royalty. Labeled Elevate DisCon2026, the DisCon serves as a platform to honor and encourage service to humanity. At the Abeokuta D9112 DisCon, District Governor Rtn Lanre Adedoyin's detailed report on his stewardship, which lasted over an hour, epitomized accountability and a motivation for Rotarians to enhance their efforts.

The Rotary Club of Ikate achieved a significant accomplishment with the setup of two elegantly designed booths at the House of Friendship, featuring a captivating photo gallery that highlighted the club's activities. One section of the booth was dedicated to business-savvy members, who showcased and sold diverse products, including wellness items, electrical gadgets, and clothing. Rotarians enjoyed complimentary healthy tea and coffee services. The social corner of the booth enabled members to build connections and network with one another, as well as with fellow Rotarians.

As part of activities lined up for RC Ikate's participation in DisCon, a Club Assembly was held where far-reaching decisions were made regarding the future direction of the rapidly growing club, which changed its motto from "Never Say Die" to "Ikate to the world".

A key takeaway for members was the meticulous planning and logistical arrangements made by Chairman RC Ikate DisCon PE Dominic Chukwuemeka, who received a resounding applause and recognition from President Rtn Chidozie Ofoegbu and the members. Mostly accommodated in a beautiful apartment located on the scenic Segun Osoba Hilltop, members took advantage of the natural beauty to create and organized a memorable Club party that lasted into the early hours of the next day. If our participation at DisCon is to be scored against past participation by RC Ikate, it is nothing compared in all ramifications. It is our best outing with the largest contingent ever. United in the ideal of service, the entire club has promised to surpass the achievements recorded. Thus, DisCon 2027 will be bigger and better.
