This effort starts at the community level but knows no limits in its outreach. About Us
Rotaract clubs are part of a global effort to bring peace and international understanding to the world. The word “ROTARACT” was coined from the words ‘ROTARY IN ACTION’ by the Rotary International Board in 1967. In 1968, Rotary International, a world wide association of service minded business and professional
leaders, founded this club. The first Rotaract Club was formed in University of North Carolina, North Charlotte, USA the same year. Here in Nigeria, Rotaract also started in 1968 with the formation of the Rotaract Club of Ibadan (now called Rotaract Club of University of Ibadan-District 9130) but the first Chartered club in Nigeria is the Rotaract Club of Lagos (University of Lagos - now in District 9110). It was Chartered on the 1st of April 1969, Rotaract Club of the University of Ibadan was Chartered some days later. Ironically, the first Club in in Nigeria had to be Re-chartered in 2000! Ten years after, the third club, Rotaract club of Ilorin was certified by 17th April, 1980. The Rotaract Club of Lagos State College of Science and Technology (Now LASPOTECH) was certified as the 4th Club on the 15th July, 1983. By the end of 1984, the following clubs were in existence in Nigeria UNILAG, University of Ibadan, Ilorin, LACOST, MEDILAG, UNI-ILORIN, ISOLO, LACOED, Ibadan Poly, Badagry, Onigbongbo, Satellite-Town and Festac-Town, while the following were in their provisional states NIJ, Ogba, Ota, Itire and Ile-Ife. Efforts to organise and establish a district were championed by the Rotaract clubs with the encouragement of PDG Julius Adelusi Adeluyi, Babs Ajayi and Bob Ogbuagu. Several meetings were held, a very decisive one took place in OWERRI, 1984. Thus at the second convention of Clubs held at the College of Medicine, University of Lagos, Idi-Araba between May 9-11, 1984, the decision to form a Rotaract District was ratified and elections were held for officers to pioneer the Affair of both Districts then existing in Nigeria, i.e. Districts 911 and 912 for 1984/1985 Service Year. These two districts were in 1986 re-divided into four i.e. 913 out of 911and 914 out of 912. And zeros were added to the districts codes starting from 1991/1992 Rotary Year i.e. D9110, D9120, D9130, and D9140. For 23 years, Districts 9120 and 9130 functioned as seperate entities until July 1, 2009 when the became 1 District - 9125 due to another round of re-districting by Rotary International. The new District 9125 is spread across the south-western and entire northern Nigeria covering 23 states plus the Federal Capital, Abuja. In which Rotaract club of Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto is among and has her sponsoring club has Rotary Club of Abuja. It is by far the largest District (in terms of geographical area) in Nigeria. Our Purpose:
