Rotafodiyo: Rotaract Club of Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto Rotaract clubs are part of a global effort to bring peace and international understanding to the world. It was Chartered the same year.

This effort starts at the community level but knows no limits in its outreach. About Us

Rotaract clubs are part of a global effort to bring peace and international understanding to the world. The word “ROTARACT” was coined from the words ‘ROTARY IN ACTION’ by the Rotary International Board in 1967. In 1968, Rotary International, a world wide association of service minded business and professional

leaders, founded this club. The first Rotaract Club was formed in University of North Carolina, North Charlotte, USA the same year. Here in Nigeria, Rotaract also started in 1968 with the formation of the Rotaract Club of Ibadan (now called Rotaract Club of University of Ibadan-District 9130) but the first Chartered club in Nigeria is the Rotaract Club of Lagos (University of Lagos - now in District 9110). It was Chartered on the 1st of April 1969, Rotaract Club of the University of Ibadan was Chartered some days later. Ironically, the first Club in in Nigeria had to be Re-chartered in 2000! Ten years after, the third club, Rotaract club of Ilorin was certified by 17th April, 1980. The Rotaract Club of Lagos State College of Science and Technology (Now LASPOTECH) was certified as the 4th Club on the 15th July, 1983. By the end of 1984, the following clubs were in existence in Nigeria UNILAG, University of Ibadan, Ilorin, LACOST, MEDILAG, UNI-ILORIN, ISOLO, LACOED, Ibadan Poly, Badagry, Onigbongbo, Satellite-Town and Festac-Town, while the following were in their provisional states NIJ, Ogba, Ota, Itire and Ile-Ife. Efforts to organise and establish a district were championed by the Rotaract clubs with the encouragement of PDG Julius Adelusi Adeluyi, Babs Ajayi and Bob Ogbuagu. Several meetings were held, a very decisive one took place in OWERRI, 1984. Thus at the second convention of Clubs held at the College of Medicine, University of Lagos, Idi-Araba between May 9-11, 1984, the decision to form a Rotaract District was ratified and elections were held for officers to pioneer the Affair of both Districts then existing in Nigeria, i.e. Districts 911 and 912 for 1984/1985 Service Year. These two districts were in 1986 re-divided into four i.e. 913 out of 911and 914 out of 912. And zeros were added to the districts codes starting from 1991/1992 Rotary Year i.e. D9110, D9120, D9130, and D9140. For 23 years, Districts 9120 and 9130 functioned as seperate entities until July 1, 2009 when the became 1 District - 9125 due to another round of re-districting by Rotary International. The new District 9125 is spread across the south-western and entire northern Nigeria covering 23 states plus the Federal Capital, Abuja. In which Rotaract club of Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto is among and has her sponsoring club has Rotary Club of Abuja. It is by far the largest District (in terms of geographical area) in Nigeria. Our Purpose:

💚 Service Above Self: Showcasing Love for Our Environment! 🌍

This past Saturday, the Rotaract Club of Usmanu Danfodiyo University joined forces with Plogging Nigeria (UDUS Chapter) for the "Love Plog" campus sanitation drive. It was an inspiring morning of fitness, community service, and environmental advocacy!

As Rotaractors, our secondary motto is "Service Above Self," and there is no better way to show love for our community than by protecting the environment we live and learn in. From the university stadium through the halls of residence and down to the campus, we rolled up our sleeves to ensure a cleaner, healthier UDUS.

📸 Highlights of the Day:

Keeping Fit to Keep Clean: We kicked off with a physical warm-up—because a healthy leader is an effective leader!

Collaboration in Action: It was an honor to work alongside Uni-SDG and the Student Union. Truly, we achieve more when we work together.

The "Love Session": We shared deep reflections on what love means—extending it beyond ourselves to humanity, the environment, and the sick.

📢 A Call to Action:

While we are proud of the work done, the exercise also highlighted a pressing need: our campus needs better waste management infrastructure. Many of our waste bins are broken or missing.
I want to personally urge both the university administration and my fellow students to take collective responsibility. Let’s not just clean up today; let’s maintain a culture of cleanliness every day.

Congratulations to the newly inaugurated executives of Plogging Nigeria UDUS! We look forward to more impactful collaborations as we strive to make our university a model of sustainability.

🕊️ Peace Begins With Me: Everyday Conflict Resolution For Young Leaders

Today, the Rotaract Club of Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, held a powerful fellowship dedicated to Peace and Conflict Resolution Month.

As young leaders, we often face challenges in our hostels, classrooms, and organizations.

Today’s lecture session, "Peace Begins With Me: Everyday Conflict Resolution for Young Leaders," gave us the practical tools to navigate these disagreements with empathy and the Four-Way Test.

Key Takeaways:

Personal Responsibility: Peace isn't just a global goal; it starts with our individual choices.

Effective Communication: Learning to listen before reacting is the first step to resolution.

Leadership in Action: How we handle conflict defines the quality of our leadership.

A huge thank you to our guest speaker and all the Rotaractors and guests who attended and contributed to the vibrant "Business of the Day"!
Let’s carry this spirit of peace into the rest of the semester. Remember: Change starts with us! 🌟
