Celebrating 18 Years of Impact: HCOMDI at a Milestone

We proudly mark a significant milestone 18 years of steadfast commitment to humanitarian service and community development in Nigeria. For nearly two decades, Hikima Community Mobilization and Development Initiative HCOMDI has remained a driving force for positive change, empowering communities and transforming lives across the country.

Our Journey: From Modest Roots to Meaningful Impact.

Since its establishment in 2006, HCOMDI has evolved from a small, passionate team into a dynamic organization with far-reaching influence. This journey has been defined by resilience, growth, and an unyielding dedication to our mission. Through consistent effort, we have addressed pressing community needs, advanced sustainable development, and improved the well-being of countless individuals.

A Strong Foundation in Community Engagement.

Central to our approach is a firm belief in the power of community-driven development. We recognize that lasting change is only possible when communities are actively involved. Over the years, we have built trust-based relationships, engaged local voices, and co-created solutions tailored to the realities and priorities of the people we serve.

Driving Change through Strategic Interventions

Our work spans critical sectors including education, healthcare, livelihoods, and social protection. From expanding access to quality education and healthcare services to fostering economic empowerment and supporting vulnerable populations, our interventions have addressed both immediate challenges and long-term development goals promoting resilience and self-reliance.

Reflecting on 18 Years of Achievement.

This anniversary is an opportunity to celebrate progress and acknowledge the collective effort behind it. We extend our sincere appreciation to our donors, partners, volunteers, and the dedicated HCOMDI team. Their support and shared vision have been pivotal to our success.

Looking Forward with Renewed Purpose

As we celebrate this milestone, we remain focused on the future with renewed energy and determination. Our commitment is stronger than ever to expand our reach, deepen our impact, and contribute to building a more just, inclusive, and prosperous Nigeria.

Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi raji’un.

With profound grief and hearts weighed down by sorrow, the entire Management, Staff, and Field Workers of Hikima Community Mobilization and Development Initiative, HCOMDI stand in mourning with our dear colleague, Abdulrahman Abdulsalam (Oga Abdul), on the painful passing of his beloved mother.

A mother is not just a parent, she is a prayer that walks beside us, a silent sacrifice that shapes our tomorrow, a gentle light that never truly fades even when she is no longer seen. Her love becomes a lifetime shelter, and her memories remain a living warmth in the hearts she nurtured.

At moments like this, words fall short and only faith speaks. We pray that Allah (SWT), in His boundless mercy, forgives her shortcomings, fills her grave with light and tranquility, expands it into a garden from the gardens of Jannah, and grants her the highest place in Aljannatul Firdaus.

May He also wrap the entire family in His comfort, strengthen their hearts with patience, replace their tears with ease, and reward them for every moment of love and care they gave to her. Though the pain of this separation is deep, we trust that Allah’s promise is true that those who return to Him in faith are welcomed with peace.

As one united HCOMDI family, we share this loss, we share these prayers, and we stand together in compassion and solidarity.

May Allah grant her eternal rest and grant the family the strength to carry this heavy test. Ameen Ya Rabb

Strengthening Community Resilience Through Financial Empowerment

We are proud exited to announce the successful completion of a 5-Day Training of Trainers on Village Savings and Loans Association, VSLA Methods, implemented by HCOMDI/CBM under the strengthening the resilience of internally displaced persons IDPs and vulnerable households in host communities across Northwestern Nigeria STILNN project.

The intervention is being implemented across four Local Government Areas Wamakko, Sokoto North, Kware, and Gwadabawa where selected community facilitators were equipped with practical skills to facilitate VSLA groups, promote savings culture, support access to small loans, and strengthen community-led economic initiatives.

During the training, participants were equipped with practical knowledge and facilitation skills on:
• Formation and management of VSLA groups
• Savings and internal lending mechanisms
• Record keeping and financial transparency
• Leadership and group governance
• Supporting economic resilience for IDPs and vulnerable households

Through the VSLA approach, participants will support households to build financial independence, improve livelihoods, manage emergencies, and reduce economic vulnerability. This is a critical step toward fostering self-reliance, social cohesion, and long-term community resilience.

We celebrate the commitment of all participants who are now ready to cascade this knowledge within their communities, ensuring that more families can benefit from sustainable financial inclusion opportunities.

Community leaders, partners, and stakeholders are encouraged to support the formation and strengthening of VSLA groups to expand impact and reach more vulnerable households. Together, we are building stronger, more resilient communities.

Today, we join the world to celebrate International Women’s Day 2026, a day dedicated to recognizing the strength, resilience, and invaluable contributions of women in our communities and across the globe.

At Hikima Community Mobilization and Development Initiative (HCOMDI), we believe that empowering women is not only a matter of equality but a pathway to stronger families, safer communities, and sustainable development.

This year’s theme reminds us that when we invest in women, we accelerate progress for everyone. From education and healthcare to leadership and economic opportunities, empowering women creates lasting change that benefits entire communities.

We reaffirm our commitment to supporting initiatives that promote the dignity, protection, and empowerment of women and girls. Together, we can build communities where every woman and girl has the opportunity to thrive, lead, and shape the future.

Let us continue to stand together, support one another, and work collectively towards a more just and inclusive society.

Empowering Communities: HCOMDI and CBM Strengthen Response to SGBV and Domestic Violence

The Hikima Community Mobilization and Development Initiative HCOMDI, in partnership with CBM, has completed a strategic training for Psychosocial Support Volunteers under the STILNN Project, aimed at reinforcing community-based responses to Sexual and Gender-Based Violence SGBV and Domestic and Gender-Based Violence DGBV.

Key Highlights and Impact

1. Strengthened Case Identification
Volunteers were trained to accurately and sensitively identify SGBV/DGBV cases, recognizing not only physical signs of abuse but also subtle emotional and behavioral indicators. Strong emphasis was placed on survivor confidentiality, safety, and ethical case handling.

2. Foundational Psychosocial Support Skills
Participants developed practical skills in active listening, empathy, and non-judgmental communication. Training in Psychological First Aid (PFA) equipped them to provide immediate, compassionate support while minimizing re-traumatization and promoting survivor dignity and agency.

3. Clear and Safe Referral Pathways
A major outcome was improved understanding of structured referral systems. Volunteers learned how to securely link survivors to medical care, legal aid, and social welfare services, guided by informed consent and a survivor-centered approach.

Strategic Significance
This initiative strengthens grassroots protection systems by creating a network of trained first responders within communities. By building local capacity, HCOMDI and CBM are ensuring survivors have timely, safe, and ethical access to essential services an essential step toward breaking cycles of violence and fostering safer, more resilient communities.

HCOMDI UNiTES Against Violence! Street Walk for 16 Days of Activism.

In powerful solidarity with the global movement, HCOMDI proudly conducted a major street walk today to commemorate the 2025 GBV 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence!

Our theme for action: "Let's UNiTE to End Digital Violence Against Women and Girls."

HCOMDI management, CBM project staff, and our dedicated Community Case Workers (CCWs) took to the streets, walking from our office to the Shehu Kangiwa Stadium (Hilin Sukuwa).

This demonstration was not just symbolic. It was a direct effort to advocate and sensitize the people on the road, within the community, and among the players at the field on the severe dangers posed by all forms of violence, with a critical focus on the growing and pervasive threat of Digital Violence.

The community heard powerful, unifying messages shared by:
The Board of Trustees Chair, The Executive Director, Our expert Protection, MHPSS, and GBV project staff.
We publicly affirmed our unwavering commitment to safeguarding women and girls.
We call on everyone to stand with us.
Let's create a safer, more respectful world both online and offline. The action starts now!

7th Orphanage Visit Edition Sees Birth of a Vision ‘Caliphate Feed a Thousand Initiative’ Announced

The Ibrahim Baba-Inna IBI Foundation, in collaboration with Hikima Community Mobilization and Development Initiative (HCOMDI), visited the Sokoto Orphanage Home as part of activities commemorating Nigeria’s Independence Day under its Orphanage Visit Initiative (7th Edition).

The annual initiative, carried out across the 36 states of Nigeria, is designed to show compassion, provide support, and extend a sense of belonging to orphans and vulnerable children. It serves as a reminder that true independence is incomplete without care for the most vulnerable members of society.

Speaking during the occasion, the Executive Director of HCOMDI, Hajia Dr. Ubaida Muhammad Bello FICEN (Sarauniyar Shariffan Sokoto) expressed gratitude for the opportunity to share love and solidarity with the children. In her address, she announced the birth of a new vision the Caliphate Feed a Thousand Initiative a pledge and commitment to ensure that orphans and less privileged children within the Caliphate and beyond are fed and cared for, free of charge.

According to her, this initiative will soon grow from a dream to a reality, strengthening the culture of compassion, charity, and collective responsibility within society. She emphasized that the work of caring for orphans goes beyond one-off visits; it is a lifelong duty of service and humanity.

As the visit came to a close, it was clear that the true spirit of independence lies not only in freedom but in the kindness we extend to one another. The smiles on the faces of the children stood as a powerful reminder that every act of compassion plants seeds of hope for a brighter tomorrow.

With the unveiling of the Caliphate Feed a Thousand Initiative, HCOMDI and IBI Foundation have reaffirmed a timeless truth when we feed the hungry, we nourish humanity itself. This vision is not just a promise, but a movement of love, dignity, and shared responsibility that will continue to echo far beyond the walls of the orphanage.
