NATIONAL PROJECT CO-ORDINATOR ACReSAL PROJECT PRESENTS AWARD OF EXELLENCE TO SOKOTO ACReSAL PROJECT

The National Project Coordinator Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi -Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL )Mr Abdulhamid Umar has presented an Award of Exellence to Sokoto ACReSAL Project for their Outstanding Performance and Results in Restoring Degraded Landscapes, Strengthening Climate Resilience and improving livelihoods of its people in Sokoto State.

The ceremony was held at the premeses of the National Project office, along NO 16, Biodun Olourunfemi Street Wuye ,Abuja, Nigeria.

Mr Abdulhamid Umar to this end, called on Sokoto ACReSAL Team to sustain the tempo and called on other States to emulate.

Receiving the Award, the Project Coordinator Sokoto ACReSAL Ibrahim Umar, represented by Mornitoring and Evaluation Officer of the Project Abdullahi Musa Dikko, thanked ACReSAL National Office and World Bank for finding worthy and presentating the award.

Alhaji Abdullahi Musa Dikko to this end said, this may not be unconnected with their outstanding commitments in the overall implementation of the ACReSAL activities in the state.

The Monitoring and Evaluation Officer to this end, assured of sustaining all the good work they are doing in order to record more successes.

The occasion was attended by Sokoto ACReSAL GIS Officer Aminu Abubakar Aliyu and other Staff from National Project office.

SOKOTO ACReSAL CUPTURED THE FIRST POSITION FOR EXELLENT PRESENTATION OF IMPACT STORIES AND RESULTS AT THE ON-GOING ACReSAL PRE-MID TERM REVIEW (MTR) MISSION, JOS PLATEAU STATE CAPITAL.

As the ACReSAL Pre-Mid-Term Review progresses, Sokoto ACReSAL has captured the first position for Exellent Presentation at on-going State-Specific Impact Session placed a spotlight on tangible progress and transformative results emerging across ACReSAL participating Nineteenth Northern States including the FCT and FPMU.
The announcement was made by the Panel of Judges that Comprises Professors from University of Jos, and the World Bank officials yesterday immediately after the announcement of the best winners.
The Panel of Judges said, the Sokoto ACReSAL was captured the best position based on their presentation, works executed, pictures displayed and videos during the presentation and other physical transformation in the improvement of lives and living conditions of people across its operational areas.
The State also captured third position during the overall assessment on Impact Stories and Results of all the ACReSAL participating Nineteenth Northern States including the FCT, while the ACReSAL National captured the first position during the overall assessment.
The Panel of Judges and World Bank officials as well as Federal Project Management Unit FPMU congratulated Sokoto for successes recorded and urged them to sustain the efforts.
Monitoring and Evaluation Officer of the Project, Abdullahi Musa Dikko who took stage on the presentation was supported by the Project Coordinator Ibrahim Umaru, Communication Officer Jamilu Abdullahi, Project Engineer Eng Ibrahim Abubakar and MIS Officer Mallam Shamsuddeen.
The session offered an evidence-based reflection of how the project is driving climate resilience, environmental restoration, and livelihood improvements at scale.
Throughout the presentations, states showcased measurable achievements across key thematic areas, including:
• Land restoration and rehabilitation of degraded landscapes
• Integrated watershed management interventions that enhance water availability
• Climate resilience actions supporting communities to adapt to changing environmental conditions
• Institutional strengthening and capacity building for sustainable natural resource governance
• Community-driven development initiatives improving local participation and ownership

Key Highlights from the Session

The State-Specific Impact Session served as a collaborative and accountability-driven platform for:
• Showcasing practical innovations and field-level success stories, demonstrating how ACReSAL is translating plans into real impact
• Identifying challenges and lessons learned, enabling states to refine implementation strategies
• Sharing best practices that can be replicated across regions for improved efficiency and outcomes
• Benchmarking performance, reinforcing the culture of transparency, learning, and adaptive project management

Way Forward

Insights generated from today’s session are instrumental in shaping the overall performance assessment ahead of the upcoming Mid-Term Review (MTR).
The documented achievements, collective reflections, and cross-state learning will guide project adjustments, strengthen implementation frameworks, and accelerate progress toward ACReSAL’s overarching objectives.

WORLD BANK DAM SAFETY EXPERTS VISITS LUGU DAM

In an efforts to ensure safety of lives and property of people across ACReSAL participating States, the World Bank Dam Safety Experts have paid an inspection to lugu Dam in
a two day Mini-Mission in Sokoto State.

The aim of the visit is to ascertain the levels of the devastating the Lugu Dam during 2010 flood disaster and measures being put in place by the contractors towards guaranteeing safety of lives and property of people.

It also aimed at advising the contractors of both the Lugu Dam and Wurno Irrigation Scheme, Consultants and Supervisors as well as Sokoto ACReSAL on how best to carry out the works based on World Bank Standard.

The World Bank Team Leader Mr Ximing Zhang who is also the World Bank Dam Safety Expert noted that, the visit was also aim at inspect and ascertain working materials to be used during the rehabilitation works to ensure their quality.

They were accompanied on various sections of the Dam by Honorable Commissioner Ministry for Water Resources Alhaji Aminu Abdullahi Dodo Iya,(Iyan Sokoto)DG/ Project Coordinator Ibrahim Umaru , Panel of Dam Safety Experts from Sokoto, Project Consultants and Supervisors, Contractors and Some Staff from Sokoto ACReSAL among others.

Sections inspected by the World Bank higher powered delegation included CGCOC Contractor yard, Lugu Dam Enbankment, Dam Reservoir, Dam intake, Primary and secondary Cannels.

Others included Collapsed Spillway, ongoing Rehabilitation work of Wurno Irrigation scheme and Yard of the Proxylogics Company responsible for the Rehabilitation of Wurno Irrigation Scheme.

In all the places visited ,the World Bank team make an observations and comments regarding the technical aspects of contracts such as Dam Safety measures, Environmental and social safegurd issues among others.

Other World Bank officials in the delegation included World Bank Environmental Safegurd Specialist Lucky Erhaze , World Bank SSI Elijah Abiodun Siakpere , World Bank Consultant Bukoye T. Adebisi and World Bank Operations Engineer Ayo Jacob Odebiyi.

They all make an observations, comments based on Health and safety plans, instrumental plans, Construction Methods, construction schedule and intake Structure among others.

They explained that, if rehabilitated , the Dam and Irrigation Scheme would improve the socio- economic activities of the people thereby ensuring food security not only in Wurno local government but County in general.

They were responded by the Project Consultants and supervisors ,Contractors, and Project Coordinator Sokoto ACReSAL.
