SHELLENG LOCAL GOVERNMENT CONDUCTS MONTHLY ENVIRONMENTAL SANITATION EXERCISE

The Executive Chairman of Shelleng Local Government Area, Hon. Abubakar Isa Mai Jama'a (Marafan Shelleng), on 29th August 2026, successfully conducted the monthly environmental sanitation exercise across the Local Government Area.

The sanitation exercise was led by the Vice Chairperson of Shelleng Local Government Area and Chairperson of the Sanitation Committee, Hon. Amina Hassan Yar Goggo (Gimbiyan Kula), under the leadership of His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, Executive Governor of Adamawa State.

Also participating in the exercise was the First Lady of Shelleng Local Government Area, Hajiya Safiya Muhammed Abubakar, who joined the Vice Chairperson in the environmental sanitation campaign.

First Lady Hajiya Safiya serves as a Director with the Federal Ministry of Environment, Adamawa State, with responsibilities covering the North-East geopolitical zone.

Speaking during the exercise, the Vice Chairperson emphasized the importance of maintaining a clean and healthy environment, while Hajiya Safiya highlighted the need for continuous public participation in sanitation activities, noting that environmental cleanliness is a collective responsibility.

The sanitation exercise was carried out peacefully and successfully, with residents of Shelleng Local Government Area turning out in large numbers to support the initiative.

The exercise witnessed the cleaning of streets, markets, drainage channels, public facilities, and other strategic locations across the Local Government Area.

The administration of Hon. Abubakar Isa Mai Jama'a (Marafan Shelleng) reaffirmed its commitment to promoting environmental cleanliness and ensuring a healthier and more sustainable Shelleng for all residents.

FIRST LADY OF SHELLENG LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA PAYS INSPECTION VISIT TO DABA COMMUNITY

The First Lady of Shelleng Local Government Area, Hajiya Safiya Muhammed Abubakar Director Federal Ministry of Environment, on Friday, 28th August 2026, paid a familiarization and inspection visit to Daba Community in Bakta Ward.

During the visit, she toured the community and visited the dam area, where she boarded a canoe to assess the water body and its surrounding environment firsthand.

The visit also provided an opportunity to observe the area where a hippopotamus was recently reported dead following a fight between two hippopotamuses.

Community members explained that the animals engaged in a fierce confrontation, which resulted in the death of one of them.

Hajiya Safiya Muhammed Abubakar expressed concern over the incident and emphasized the importance of protecting wildlife and preserving the natural environment.

She also commended the people of Daba Community for their cooperation and hospitality during the visit.

The First Lady reaffirmed her commitment to supporting initiatives that promote environmental conservation, community development, and peaceful coexistence between people and wildlife within Shelleng Local Government Area.
