The growing threats against children in Nigeria demand urgent collective action. Across communities, schools, homes, and even among both the rich and the poor, millions of children continue to face abuse, exploitation, violence, and silence. Many suffer in fear without help, protection, or a voice to speak for them.

Through the implementation of the Safe Schools, Safe Future Project in Rivers State Nigeria, Solution Social Initiative - SSI is strengthening child protection awareness, promoting safer learning environments, and advancing the principles of the Child Rights Act and the Federal Government Safe Schools Declaration.

This is a wake-up call to government institutions, development partners, traditional leaders, schools, faith-based organizations, media stakeholders, and concerned citizens to rise together in defense of children. Protecting children is not optional, it is a shared responsibility and a moral obligation.

We call for stronger partnerships, expanded support, and sustained collaboration to safeguard every child and secure a safer future for the next generation.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SSI Calls for Peace After Fubara’s Withdrawal Announcement

Across democratic societies globally, history has consistently shown that leadership is not always demonstrated through confrontation, political rivalry, or persistence in contests at all costs. In many instances, respected leaders have embraced dialogue, compromise, sacrifice, and strategic restraint in order to preserve peace, protect democratic institutions, strengthen stability, and prevent avoidable tensions within society. Such decisions should therefore not be interpreted as weakness, fear, or surrender, but as acts of responsibility and statesmanship in the interest of the greater good.

Solution Social Initiative - SSI acknowledges the recent decision of the Governor of Rivers State, H.E. Sir Siminalayi Fubara, to withdraw from the gubernatorial primaries, describing the move as one that reflects political maturity and prioritization of peace above personal ambition.

At this sensitive period in Rivers State, all stakeholders especially young people, political supporters, bloggers, media actors, and online influencers must resist the temptation of spreading misinformation, incitement, propaganda, and divisive narratives capable of escalating tensions ahead of the 2027 elections.

Peacebuilding is a collective responsibility. Political differences must never outweigh the security, unity, and future of Rivers State and its people.

SSI therefore calls on Rivers youths to embrace responsible civic engagement, issue-based participation, political tolerance, and constructive dialogue. Elections should not become a battlefield of hostility, hate speech, or violence, but an opportunity for democratic participation and development-focused conversations.

We further urge bloggers and media platforms to exercise professionalism, accuracy, and social responsibility in their reportage. The digital space must not become an instrument for provoking instability or misleading the public for personal or political interests.

Rivers State belongs to all of us.
Its peace, stability, and future must remain our highest priority.

URGENT GLOBAL CALL FOR CHILD SAFETY, PROTECTION & SAFEGUARDING ACTION

The rising threats facing children across communities demand urgent, collective, and sustained action from governments, institutions, civil society organizations, schools, parents, faith leaders, and global development partners.

From violence, abuse, exploitation, bullying, unsafe learning environments, emotional trauma, and neglect, millions of children continue to face dangers that threaten their safety, dignity, education, and future. Child protection can no longer remain a reactive conversation. The time has come for stronger safeguarding systems, prevention-focused policies, enhanced community awareness, and coordinated protection mechanisms that prioritize the needs of children at the center of development and governance.

As Solution Social Initiative - SSI continues to implement the Safe Schools, Safe Future Project in Rivers State, Nigeria, West Africa, we call for shared strategies and stronger partnerships to build safer schools, strengthen child protection frameworks, promote children’s rights awareness, and safeguard the future of every child.

Protecting children is not only a moral responsibility, it is a global investment in peace, security, and sustainable development.

Dear ActionAid Nigeria, European Union in Nigeria, Mastercard Foundation, MacArthur Foundation, Canada’s International Development – Global Affairs Canada, Burna Boy, Secretary to the Rivers State Government, UNDP in Nigeria, UNICEF Nigeria; Together, we must rise to protect every child.

Today, on the International Day of the Boy Child, Solution Social Initiative - SSI joins voices across the world to draw attention to the silent struggles faced by many boys in our communities.

Too often, boys are taught to hide their pain, suppress their emotions, and endure trauma in silence. Behind many young smiles are stories of neglect, violence, emotional pressure, abandonment, and lack of support. A society that ignores the emotional and psychological wellbeing of boys risks raising generations burdened by untreated trauma and hopelessness.

SSI believes that every boy deserves protection, guidance, education, emotional support, and equal opportunity to grow in a safe and healthy environment. As we continue advancing child protection and safe schools advocacy in Rivers State and beyond, we call on parents, leaders, schools, faith institutions, and policymakers to pay closer attention to the welfare of the boy child. Protecting boys today is part of securing a safer and stronger future for society.

Happy International Day of the Boy Child.

16/05/2026

Children’s protection must remain at the center of leadership, governance, and public policy in Nigeria. The safety, dignity, and future of every child should never be treated as secondary to politics, public reactions, or crisis management.

Recent developments across Rivers State have once again reinforced the urgent need for stronger safeguarding systems within our schools and communities. This is why stakeholders’ commitment toward the implementation of the Safe Schools, Safe Future Project remains critical at this moment. Beyond awareness, the project represents a coordinated framework for prevention, child rights protection, school safety, and institutional accountability.

Solution Social Initiative - SSI therefore calls on government institutions, Local Government authorities, education stakeholders, security agencies, school administrators, parents, and community leaders to collectively support and strengthen this initiative. Protecting children is not a symbolic responsibility; it is a leadership obligation and a shared duty to secure the future of our society.
