Menstruation and menstrual hygiene is a topic that cannot be over-discussed, and we are here to ensure that the right information is shared and appropriate menstrual hygiene products are used.

Day 1 of our 3-Day Menstrual Health Training & Product Demo for our women collectives and Menstrual Health Champions at Riyom was both insightful and informative.

With the support of PSI and GIZ, our women collectives were equipped with the right knowledge to challenge harmful beliefs and break the silence around menstruation and menstrual health. It was a day filled with eye-opening conversations, information, and education.

Our participants learned the proper way to track their menstrual cycle, gained a better understanding of how the female body functions, and were educated on what is considered normal and abnormal when it comes to their health.

We’re just getting started, and if Day 1 was this impactful, Day 2 promises to be even more engaging and insightful!

We wrapped up our 3-Day Menstrual Health Training and Product Demo for our women collectives and Menstrual Health Champions at Riyom LGA on a powerful and inspiring note.

What stood out the most?
Changed perceptions, renewed confidence, and a strong commitment to step down knowledge and sensitize others within their communities.

This training has once again proven to be timely, relevant, and absolutely necessary. Lives and perceptions were changed.

From learning about eco-friendly menstrual products to understanding the importance of proper menstrual hygiene, one thing is clear: menstrual health is everyone’s responsibility.

Our Menstrual Health Champions (MH Champions) are geared up and are keeping the conversation going, educating the people of Riyom about menstruation and menstrual health.

At PSI Nigeria, we don’t just collect data, we use it to change lives.

This World Health Day, we’re celebrating the power of science in action.

For us, data is not just numbers, it's the story of real people and the real needs from real communities....... and every day, we transform that evidence into solutions that make health simpler, more accessible, and more meaningful for the communities we serve.

From menstrual health to economic empowerment, routine immunization to non-communicable disease prevention, our programs are built on what the data tells us and what people say they truly need.

Better data. Better decisions. Better health for all.

That’s our commitment. 🌍✨

Happy World Health Day!

KNOW THE RISK FACTORS

High blood pressure and diabetes remain the top causes of kidney disease in Nigeria.
Uncontrolled hypertension silently damages the kidneys — often for years before symptoms appear.

You should check your kidney function regularly. If you:
✔ Have high BP
✔ Have over diabetes
✔ Are over 40
✔ Are overweight
✔ Have a family history of kidney disease

Prevention begins with knowing your numbers.

👉 Check your BP this week. Protect your kidneys.

THE KIDNEY HEALTH REALITY!!!

As continues to raise awareness on kidney health, here’s the truth MOST PEOPLE DON'T KNOW:
 Your kidneys quietly remove toxins
 Balance fluids
 Regulate blood pressure
 When they fail, the consequences are serious and often life-threatening.

This year, we join the world to call for:
— Caring for People, Protecting the Planet. 🌍

Empowering Women Through Menstrual Health in Plateau State

To commemorate International Women’s Day, the Women and Girl Child Rescue and Development Initiative (WGRDI), in partnership with Population Services International (PSI) and with support from German Cooperation, organized a one-day outreach programme for internally displaced women in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The aim of this outreach was simple yet powerful: to empower women with the knowledge and resources to manage their menstruation with dignity.

Due to the recurring violent conflicts in these communities, many women can no longer afford basic menstrual hygiene products. Beyond the trauma of displacement from their homes, they now face multiple challenges — limited access to clean water, inadequate health facilities, poor nutrition, and the absence of safe spaces for women and girls.

Yet, despite these harsh realities, menstruation does not pause until conditions improve — it continues regardless.

In collaboration with the Plateau State Ministry of Women Affairs & Social Development and the Nigerian Association of Women Journalist (NAWOJ), we spent the day engaging with these women — sharing knowledge, offering support, and distributing dignity kits containing reusable sanitary pads, toothbrushes, toothpaste, and buckets.

More than the items distributed, the most important gift shared was knowledge — knowledge that these women can pass on to their daughters and their communities.

This year’s theme reminds us that when we give, we gain.

What we gave today goes beyond physical items. The knowledge shared within communities and across generations creates a ripple effect — one that strengthens women, uplifts families, and ultimately transforms societies.

When a 10-year-old girl from Garun Babba asked, “Can I be part of them?” she had no idea she was stepping into leadership.

Aisha joined PSI Nigeria’s MH-NoW peer educator network and her confidence grew. She learned about her body, supported her classmates, and inspired more girls to speak openly about menstruation.

Between June and December 2025, peer educators like Aisha reached 20,767 girls across Kano State with accurate menstrual health information, with 298 referrals for additional care.

This is what happens when girls are given knowledge, voice, and safe spaces. They grow into confident women, ready to lead.
