Standing with colleagues as global movements unite in Santa Marta to launch “People’s Declaration for a Rapid, Equitable, and Just Transition for a Fossil-Free Future” ahead of historic climate conference.

A rapid, direct, equitable, and just transition to 100% renewable energy; ensure equitable and universal access to renewable energy

An end to barriers to the transition and pursue solutions

A comprehensive just transition

The Declaration calls for immediate, concrete actions:

1. A complete equitable and just phase-out of fossil fuels aligned with meeting the goal of keeping warming below 1.5°c and reach global real zero emissions by 2050

2. A rapid, direct, equitable, and just transition to 100% renewable energy; ensure equitable and universal access to renewable energy

3. An end to barriers to the transition and pursue solutions

4. A comprehensive just transition

The People’s Declaration will be reinforced with global days of action under the banner Fossil Free Rising, where communities worldwide are mobilizing to demand political will for a just transition. The movement also emphasizes that the recent ICJ Advisory Opinion confirms states have a binding legal obligation to act, making further delay a violation of international law.

As the World commemorates World Earth Day 2026 with the theme "OUR POWER, OUR PLANET”

At SWAYA we reminiscence the work we do, which includes advocacies, activities on biodiversity conservation/restoration, renewable energy campaigns, plastic pollution and advocacies for sustainable environment.

The theme "Our Power, Our Planet" emphasizes on leveraging local solutions and personal actions to combat climate change to sustain the ecosystem.

World Earth Day reminds us that the health of our planet is tied to our own survival. So every ecosystem we restore, every small action we take, brings us closer to a future where people and nature can truly thrive.

We encourage everyone to collectively mobilize actions on environmental protection and sustainability daily.

We charge you all to be more engaged in recycling, composting, use/invest in renewable energy and plant more trees to support biodiversity sustainability which involves protecting ecosystems through sustainable consumption, habitat restoration, and community-based conservation.

Let's rethink our choices, reduce our impact, and be part of the movement to restore our world.

Remember the future of the Planet is in our hands.

Happy World Earth Day 2026

SWAYA was part of the Inaugural African Women Climate Justice Day held on the 15th of April, 2026 organised by Kabethkache Women development and resource Centre, around the continent African Women unite for reparation and climate Justice.

Theme: Our Land, Our Rights, Our Voices"

African Women are not just victims of Climate Change but key innovators in adaptation and resilience therefore, we rise to lend our voices to take action across Africa.

Climate Change increases the rate of GBV in our communities. Climate crisis is also a health crisis that has impacted people adversely across Africa.

Climate Change and insecurity in our communities are highly connected because desertification has caused migration to the south and which has caused high level of insecurity in our communities.

Women are involved every day in unpaid care work in homes without proper recognition. We advocate for inclusion in decision making, local gender focal points, make women part of the energy transition plan for a Just transition.

African women rise to call for the cancelation of climate debt.

We say No climate justice without preparation for African women.

We need Climate Justice now
