GENERAL OVERVIEW
PSFI is a pro-life organisation which began in 2007 as ‘Kare Afrika’ but now Putting A Smile On Your Face Initiative [PSFI] upon being formally registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission of Nigeria as a non-governmental organisation. The primary aim is to bring hope and succour to disadvantaged members of our r
ich society. PSFI owes its origin to the passion that was ignited in the heart of the founder Mrs. Thelma Oki when she decided to spend her 2007 birthday with some inner city kids somewhere in Port Harcourt. Her presence in their midst brought her face-to-face to with the harsh reality of their predicaments and that spurred her to reach out to more of such members of our larger society. Since then, PSFI has positively impacted the lives of over a hundred people and has become a structured humanitarian organisation. The programmes of the organisation focuses on issues such as giving support to vulnerable women and children, assisting impoverished and disadvantaged people, encouraging unemployed and idle youths to engage in productive activities, working in the spirit of the Christian virtue of compassion and to promote the sacredness of human life and the dignity of the human person. Although PSFI is rooted in the Christian faith, our operations serve people based solely on their needs, regardless of their religion and ethnicity. To be able to meaningfully impact more lives, PSFI engages well meaning individuals and organisations who share in the objectives of the organisation to pool their resources together in bringing hope and succour to the less privileged. PSFI is governed by a board of directors comprising seasoned and well exposed individuals; doctor, lawyer, astute business persons as well as other devout Christians. We are committed to a set of guiding principles and hold ourselves accountable to each other for them. PSFI maintains strict standards of efficiency, accountability and transparency:

Respect for human life. Integrity in our conduct. Empowerment for sustainable growth. Our work is weaved into effective programmes that can be easily evaluated, on the basis of the impact. The programmes are:
Better Life: This is aimed at improving the living conditions of the target beneficiaries through various means that include distribution of mattresses and other basic supplies, re-painting their houses, educating them on family planning, and a lot more according to the peculiarities of each situation. PSFI believes that nothing is too insignificant in touching lives. Staying Alive: This is designed to promote healthy living through strategic health awareness campaigns, enlightenment sessions on the importance of good hygiene and keeping the environment clean. PSFI provides free medical advisory services, examination, quick on-the-spot tests and drugs. The physically challenged are not neglected as quality wheel chairs and other basic aids are made available to them at no cost. Educational Support: We seek to support the educational development of children by; paying school fees for as much as we can and providing a variety of learning materials too. Smiling Moments: On a periodic basis, target beneficiaries get the joyful opportunity to pick clothes, shoes, and other items from a pool of donations in kind made available by well meaning individuals of the society. Give Support: As a humanitarian organisation, PSFI works with other individuals and organisations on initiatives that are in line with our objectives. have firm a belief in supporting women and older youths in becoming economically self-reliant to enable them better the lot of their households, which in itself restores the dignity of such individuals. It is our policy, to update ourselves individually and corporately on global trends, and in the coming months we shall be embarking on programmes that address global issues such as relief in times of disaster, economic development, women’s empowerment, advocacy, poverty, and so on. In view of the fact that the core aspect of our work is to advance human lives and give hope, we are resolute in our commitment to those who are sincerely in need and total dedicated to the damped lives of the poor and destitute in the society. WHERE WE WORK
Our work is humanitarian in nature and we are beginning from our home country Nigeria and to other parts of the world. Mrs. Thelma Oki is a graduate of Sociology from the University of Port Harcourt. She has cognitive corporate working experience having served as a Marketing Executive in the financial sector as well as a Public Relations Manager in Robam Nigeria Limited, a construction firm. Thelma is currently an astute business woman engaged in commercial retailing and has garnered tremendous insights on social issues from her numerous international trips. She is the Founder and President of PSFI and oversees its operations. Obiara Ekuge is a graduate of Mathematics and Computer Science from the University of Port Harcourt. As a self-driven and focused woman, Obiara ventured into the world of business by establishing Hydrofoil International Services, a company engaged in the provision of top-notch interior decoration solutions. Her wealth of experience in business has seen her offer business support services to others as a consultant. She is currently studying Human Resources Management with the National Open University of Nigeria. Obiara’s unflinching interest in supporting lowly individuals to make the most of their lives endeared her to the PSFI vision and she serves as its Vice President. Dr. Aloni Adolphus Alali is a graduate of Medicine from Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital, Zaria. He currently works for the Rivers State Government under the Rivers State Hospitals Management Board, Accident and Emergency Unit, Braithwaite Memorial Hospital. Aloni is an epitome of service and professionalism and he has a keen interest in public health. He believes in the PSFI vision and serves as the Coordinator of medical outreaches and programmes. Uloma Mike-Tamunotonye studied Foreign Languages and Literature at the University of Port Harcourt. She is a passionate Teacher by profession whose humble background is responsible for her interest in giving back to the under privileged in the society. Uloma also has an avid interest in catering; she owns and runs her firm ‘Food Affairs’ through which she supervises the catering needs of PSFI. Mayen Assangha as a Legal Practitioner is a Senior Associate with Solola & Akpana, one of the leading commercial law firms in Nigeria. She obtained her L.L.B degree from Ambrose Alli University Ekpoma and was called to bar in 2007. She has vast experience in corporate commercial practice and has been engaged in various corporate commercial transactions, including litigation and arbitration. Mayen is keen about bridging the gap between the less privileged and the privileged in our society. She serves as the Legal Adviser of PSFI amidst other roles. We are also building professional networks that will enable our team obtain information and technological expertise that will better equip us for the task of providing excellent service to those in our care.
