Living by principles shouldn’t be optional.
Over the weekend, boys and girls learned how principles help them maintain their purity and make wise choices even when faced with pressure or temptation.
Here are 4 ways you can help your child develop strong principles for life:
1. Consistently teach them the Truth: Children develop principles when they are regularly not occasionally taught God’s Word. As they learn His standards and ways, they develop convictions that guide their decisions throughout life. Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it. Proverbs 22:6
2. Provide positive role models: Children learn more from what they see than from what they hear. Principles are caught before they are taught. When they observe adults living out godly values, they are inspired to do the same. You should be their first model.Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ. 1 Corinthians 11:1
3. Plant them in a values-based community: Children develop strong principles when they regularly interact with people who encourage godly values and wise character. Communities such as the annual Values Refining Course (Batches A, B & C) and the weekly Inculcating Godly Values Class (IGVC) provide opportunities for children to learn, practice and strengthen godly principles alongside like minded peers and mentors. To register your child today for the Values Refining Course please pay ₦30,000 into THE SCENT OF HOPE FOUNDATION Zenith Bank – 1311145866. Kindly send proof of payment to 08029990307.
4. Encourage personal convictions, not just following rules: you achieve this by helping them understand the “why” behind values so they develop convictions that guide their choices and not become performers. Like Daniel, they will purpose in their hearts to honor God and refuse what is wrong. But Daniel resolved not to defile himself.Daniel 1:8
