Media chat on Family Planning in Nigerian Pidgin language at Wazobia FM, PortHarcourt.

The theme of this year's World Contraception Day is "Bursting the Myths". One of the most common myth about Family Planning is that it causes Infertility.

In this interview with Jeta, Mrs. Odega debunks this myth, stating that there is no significant relationship between Infertility and the uptake of family planning methods. Family Planning is safe, and once taken off, fertility will be returned.

September 26th is World Contraception Day; a day focused on creating awareness about contraceptive knowledge and family planning. It is a global campaign held annually to shed light on birth control methods by asserting the importance of reproductive health.

Established by the World Health Organisation, it is a significant day in CWHAD as it creates an opportunity for discourse on Family Planning which is an evidence based method of reducing maternal mortality.

To commemorate this year's event, we carried out series of media chats on radio stations in Rivers State, reaching thousands of people in Rivers State with Family Planning messages. Also, as a part of the Rivers State Family Planning Advocacy Working Group, we paid a courtesy visit to the Deputy Governor of Rivers State, Dame Dr. Mrs. Ipalibo Harry Banigo, who is the National Family Planning Champion.

Our Story

Imagine a country where every woman has equal access to health care during pregnancy and delivery, a country where death due to complications from pregnancy and child birth make headlines because of its unpopularity, a country where it is uncommon for health facilities to find cases of teen mothers and adolescents infected with Sexually Transmitted Infections(STIs)...that country exists in this world. Nigeria can be that country too.

In CWHAD , our goal is to reduce maternal mortality in Nigeria and to raise a generation of young people who are empowered to make informed reproductive health choices. The organization was established in 2012 as a nongovernmental organization. We are duly registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission of Nigeria as well as with relevant authorities in Rivers state where our headquarters is located.

Our Vision is to become the leading centre of excellence in Nigeria championing the course of health promotion for women and young people. CWHAD works with a team of multidisciplinary professionals to achieve its goals and objectives.

Our strategies include Advocacy, capacity building/training, research and service delivery. Since inception till date, we have impacted over 10,000 lives directly through various projects.
