OVER 5,000 BENEFIT FROM O. B. LULU-BRIGGS FOUNDATION’S 45TH FREE MEDICAL MISSION IN OGU

The O.B. Lulu-Briggs Foundation has concluded its 45th Free Medical Mission in Ogu, Ogu/Bolo Local Government Area, delivering critical healthcare services to 5,112 people in five days, including 149 surgeries across a broad range of medical conditions.

Chairman of the O.B. Lulu-Briggs Foundation, Dr. Mrs. Seinye Lulu-Briggs, underscored the urgency of expanding access to care in underserved communities.

“In many communities across our country, the greatest fear is not illness itself, but what happens when illness comes and there is nowhere to turn,” she said. “For more than two decades, we have chosen to stand in that gap, bringing healing, dignity, and hope to those who need it most.”

Dr. (Mrs.) Seinye Lulu-Briggs, who was represented by Ms. Ibiere Akpana, noted that high out-of-pocket health costs continue to prevent many Nigerians from seeking timely care, making interventions such as the Free Medical Mission essential in bridging the gap between communities and the healthcare system.

Held from March 16 to March 20, 2026 at the Model Primary Healthcare Centre, the outreach drew large crowds daily, reflecting both the scale of unmet healthcare needs and the impact of sustained intervention.

Of the total beneficiaries, 3,439 were women and 1,673 were men. Within the same period, the medical team carried out 149 surgical procedures, including 38 right inguinal hernia repairs, 32 lipoma excisions, 13 left inguinal hernia repairs, 7 hydrocelectomies (incision to drain fluid collection in the scrotal sac and repairs) 8 ganglion excisions(benign lump), 5 appendectomies, and other complex procedures such as release of intestinal strangulation caused by hernia, excision of rhabdomyosarcoma(soft cancer tissue) bilateral resection of extra limbs.

The mission was formally opened on March 18, with dignitaries, community leaders, and stakeholders in attendance. Representing the Executive Chairman of Ogu/Bolo Local Government Area, Chief (Barr.) Vincent Nemieboka, the Vice Chairman, Hon. Dr. Mrs. Eunice Alabo, conveyed the appreciation of the local government and the people of Ogu.

In a message conveyed on behalf of the Chairman, she described the outreach as a life-changing medical intervention and commended the Foundation for its consistent commitment to improving lives across communities. She expressed appreciation for bringing the mission to Ogu and reaffirmed the Council’s support for initiatives that expand access to quality healthcare.

The outreach was delivered by a team of 77 medical volunteers and 32 non-medical volunteers under the leadership of Dr. Famba Famba Daniel, whose coordinated efforts ensured smooth operations across consultation, diagnostics, surgery, and follow-up care.

Goodwill messages were delivered by several dignitaries and partner organizations. Professor Hope Ilanye Bell-Gam commended the Foundation for its sustained impact, while Dr. Omowunmi Kolafa, representing the African Women Lawyers Association (AWLA) Rivers State, described the initiative as a transformative contribution to advancing access to healthcare in Nigeria as a fundamental human right.

Barrister Sotonye Kelechi-Nwuzi, representing FIDA Port Harcourt, reaffirmed continued support for initiatives that promote the welfare, health, and well-being of women and children, and praised the Foundation’s consistency over the years.

The Free Medical Mission programme has delivered care to over 195,000 beneficiaries across multiple states, growing into one of the O.B. Lulu-Briggs Foundation’s flagship interventions and a vital source of free, comprehensive healthcare for underserved communities.

Building on this record, the foundation continues to expand its reach across the Niger Delta and beyond through sustained investments in health, education, and community welfare. Its programmes span Rivers, Bayelsa, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom States, providing scholarships to more than 1,500 students, support for over 500 senior citizens under its Care for Life programme, potable water to 33 communities, and microcredit assistance to small business owners, reinforcing its long-standing commitment to improving lives at scale.

EDUCATION REMAINS THE SUREST PATHWAY TO SOCIAL PROGRESS, SAYS DR. SEINYE LULU-BRIGGS

The O.B. Lulu-Briggs Foundation has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing education as a fundamental human right and a vital driver of social and economic progress.

Speaking during the 2026 World Education Day celebration held in Abonnema, headquarters of Akuku-Toru Local Government Area of Rivers State, the Chairman of the Foundation, Dr. Mrs. Seinye Lulu-Briggs, stated that education remains the most reliable pathway to social advancement and sustainable community development.

Dr. Lulu-Briggs noted that the Foundation continues to implement targeted educational interventions designed to expand access and improve learning outcomes. These include free WAEC and JAMB preparatory classes delivered through digital learning platforms, currently benefiting about 200 students each year.

She also highlighted the Foundation’s Law School Scholarship Scheme, which since 2009 has supported the training of nearly 1,000 lawyers drawn from all 23 local government areas of Rivers State. In line with emerging global trends, she further announced plans to establish a digital academy aimed at equipping youths in rural communities with practical technology and digital skills.

Dr. Lulu-Briggs stated that every child deserves equal access to quality education and the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to society.

As part of the event, Mr. Yeriso Harry, Deputy Chief Operations Officer of Cinfores Limited, delivered a lecture on the role of technology in education. He described technology as essential to modern learning and urged stakeholders to strengthen supporting infrastructure, including electricity and internet access, to enable digital education. He also encouraged students to embrace innovation while maintaining strong critical thinking skills.

The celebration featured an inter school essay competition involving six secondary schools in Abonnema. Abonnema Girls Secondary School emerged overall winner with 19 points. Community Secondary School, Obonoma, placed second, while Nyemoni Anglican Grammar School placed third.

The top three schools received artificial intelligence related books, while all participating students received school bags and writing materials.

The O.B. Lulu-Briggs Foundation remains committed to expanding educational access, supporting academic excellence, and empowering young people across Rivers State through sustained investment in learning and human capital development.

O. B. Lulu-Briggs Foundation Marks International Day of Education with Renewed Commitment to Access, Digital Learning, and Youth Empowerment

Port Harcourt, Nigeria – January 24, 2026

The O. B. Lulu-Briggs Foundation joins the global community in commemorating International Day of Education, reaffirming its commitment to education as a fundamental human right and a cornerstone of social development, equity, and sustainable progress.

International Day of Education, observed annually on January 24, highlights the central role of education in building peaceful, resilient, and inclusive societies. This year’s observance underscores the responsibility of institutions and communities to ensure that young people have access to learning systems that are relevant, inclusive, and equipped for the realities of a changing world.

The Foundation continues to translate this commitment into practical action through a range of education-focused interventions. Each year, it runs free preparatory classes for students sitting the West African Examinations Council ( WAEC) and Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examinations. The programme runs for four months annually and serves an average of two hundred students per session. Learning is supported with laptops and other digital assets to strengthen digital literacy, expand access to educational resources, and ensure that students are not excluded from modern learning tools.

Beyond secondary education, the Foundation sustains a long-standing Law School Students Scholarship programme, established in 2009, to support young people from Rivers State admitted to the Nigerian Law School. Each beneficiary receives a cash gift and a brand-new laptop, bringing them into the digital era since 2009.

Since inception, the programme has supported almost 1,000 law students across all 23 local government areas of Rivers State. The programme is designed to build capacity, strengthen professional competence, and empower young lawyers with the tools required for research, legal writing, and professional development.

In furtherance of its digital inclusion agenda, the Foundation is in the process of establishing a digital academy. The academy will provide structured digital skills training and create pathways for young people especially in rural areas to participate meaningfully in a technology-driven economy. These youths ordinarily have no access to computer based learning facilities.

The Foundation also acknowledges the leadership of the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Dr. Mrs. Seinye Lulu-Briggs, whose lifelong commitment to education and consistent advocacy for underserved communities continue to shape the Foundation’s vision and impact. Her enduring passion for expanding access to learning has remained central to the Foundation’s work across generations.

Speaking on the significance of the day, the Foundation is reaffirming that education remains one of the most powerful tools for social transformation, economic mobility, and community development.

“As we mark International Day of Education, 2026, we reaffirm our responsibility to build systems that gives every child and young person a fair chance to learn, grow, and contribute meaningfully to society. Education is not only a pathway to opportunity. It is a duty to the future,” the Foundation stated.

O. B. LULU-BRIGGS FOUNDATION LAUNCHES 'ADOPT A SENIOR CITIZEN' INITIATIVE IN PORT COURT

The O.B. Lulu-Briggs Foundation has launched a new humanitarian initiative, Adopt a Senior Citizen, aimed at strengthening long-term care and support for elderly persons in Port Harcourt and surrounding communities.

The initiative, which forms part of the foundation’s Care for Life programme, was announced on Thursday during a New Year celebration organised by the foundation for senior citizens under its care in Port Harcourt.

Founded in 2001 by its chairman and founder, Dr. Seinye Lulu-Briggs, the O.B. Lulu-Briggs Foundation was established to promote human dignity through targeted humanitarian interventions, with a core focus on healthcare, elderly care, social welfare, and support for vulnerable populations in under-served communities.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Seinye Lulu-Briggs reaffirmed the foundation’s commitment to the wellbeing of senior citizens, describing elderly care as a moral and social responsibility that must be sustained throughout life. She explained that the Adopt a Senior Citizen initiative is designed to encourage individuals, families, and organisations to partner with the foundation by directly supporting the care of elderly persons.

According to her, the Care for Life programme provides comprehensive support, including medical care, daily basic needs, personal assistance, and emotional support. She stressed that the foundation remains responsible for the senior citizens under its care until the end of life, guided by principles of compassion, dignity, and service.

While appreciating the consistent yearly donations and support from groups and individuals, Dr. Lulu-Briggs urged more Nigerians to participate in the initiative by adopting a senior citizen, noting that caring for the elderly reflects enduring societal values and shared responsibility.

She disclosed that more than 600 senior citizens have benefited from the foundation’s Care for Life programme over the years, receiving sustained medical attention, essential daily support, and social care following enrolment.

Goodwill messages from medical volunteers, beneficiaries, and representatives of the African Women Lawyers Association commended Dr. Lulu-Briggs for sustaining the humanitarian service she began many years ago alongside her late husband, describing the foundation’s work as a vital contribution to social welfare.

The event concluded with a sermon, followed by the cutting of a New Year cake by the senior citizens and the distribution of food items and gifts to all attendees.

O.B. Lulu-Briggs Foundation Reaffirms Commitment to Accessible Healthcare at 44th Free Medical Mission

Aluu, Rivers State | September 24, 2025 — The O.B. Lulu-Briggs Foundation has restated its commitment to providing free healthcare to underserved communities as it launched its 44th Free Medical Mission in partnership with the Dr. Henry Wordu Foundation at Aluu, Ikwerre Local Government Area, Rivers State.

Chairman of the Foundation, Dr. Seinye O.B. Lulu-Briggs, said the missions have, for two decades, delivered critical services across Rivers, Bayelsa, Cross River and Akwa Ibom States.

“When sickness comes, it does not ask if you are rich or poor. Too often, the difference between life and death is the affordability of care. Since 2005, our missions have brought healing, dignity and hope to those who might otherwise be forgotten,” she said.

Since inception, the programme has reached over 190,000 beneficiaries, with each mission serving an average of 4,500 people through surgeries, eye care, dental treatment, paediatrics, laboratory testing, health education and the distribution of essential medicines.

Dr. Lulu-Briggs stressed that the initiative complements government efforts and called for partnerships to revive and manage underutilised primary healthcare centres, ensuring year-round access.

The Foundation thanked its 77 medical and 32 non-medical volunteers, co-sponsor Dr. Henry Wordu, and partners including Moni Pulo Limited, La Sien Bottling Company, and Chapel of God International Worship Centre.

Dignitaries present included Professor Ngozi Odu, Deputy Governor of Rivers State, representing Governor Siminalayi Fubara; Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, Minister of Health and Social Welfare; Dr. Yusuf Tanko Sununu, Minister of State for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction; and Dr. Dawari George, Chairman of the Rivers State Primary Health Care Management Board.

As the initial showers that greeted the day wound down, the 44th free medical mission of the O. B. Lulu-Briggs Foundation underscored a clear truth: in a country where access to healthcare is uncertain, the O.B. Lulu-Briggs Foundation remains both a lifeline and a reminder of what is possible.
