Two days ago, we flagged of 16 Days of Activism across our Ogoja and Takum Offices. "16 Days of Activism" is short for "16 Days of Activism against Gender Based Violence". It is a global awareness campaign that seeks to raise awareness about the prevalence of gender based violence - especially violence against women and girls - in a bid to end it.

This campaign runs from the 25th of November to the 10th of December yearly. During this campaign, many activities are carried out in order to encourage individuals and organizations to promote positive behaviors towards women and girls and challenge societal traditions towards women and girls that are harmful to their well being.

This year, the theme is "Unite to End Digital Violence against Women and Girls".

At Rhema Care, we are working to create a world that is safe to our women and girls. Within our sphere of influence, we strive towards supporting those who are survivors of gender based violence while ensuring that justice is served to perpetrators

Rhema Care held a two-day training for its community volunteers on 18–19 November 2025, focusing on Mental Health and Psychosocial Support, as well as its Safeguarding Policy. The sessions included expert-led lectures and interactive group discussions on sensitive issues relevant to ongoing interventions in Taraba State.

The training also provided an opportunity to reflect on the year’s progress and identify areas for improvement in the coming year. Rhema Care extends its appreciation to Malteser International for supporting this initiative.

Thursday!

Today, we share highlights from our commemoration of the International Day of the Girl Child held at Model Girls’ Secondary School, Rumueme, Obio/Akpor LGA, Rivers State, and in Eneme Community, Kurmi LGA, Taraba State on the 10th and 14th of October respectively.

The events featured engaging panel discussions focused on building the capacity of girls, inspiring leadership, and empowering them to take charge of their lives in any circumstance. In Port Harcourt, Rhema Care partnered with the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) to raise awareness on human trafficking and its impact on the girl child.

Rhema Care remains committed to positively transforming the lives of girls by creating opportunities that help them thrive and lead

Rhema Care's efforts to ensure that vulnerable communities are adequately nourished via its Food Security and Nutrition programme are yielding results.

In Kurmi Local Government Area, 100 farmers comprising refugees, host community members, and internally displaced persons (IDPs) were trained with good agricultural practices (GAP) and empowered with farm inputs.

With dedication and hard work, the beneficiaries have planted and harvested groundnuts (5 bags of 50kg each) and maize (10 bags of 50kg each), alongside okro, peppers, tomatoes, spinach, and pumpkin (ugu) leaves in varying quantities.

These efforts strengthen food security and foster resilience, unity, and self-reliance among communities rebuilding their lives.

This World Food Day, Rhema Care joins the global call for collective action under the theme “Hand in Hand for Better Foods and a Better Future.”

Through our Food Security and Nutrition Project, which is funded by Malteser International, in Taraba state Nigeria, we continue to support vulnerable households with improved access to nutritious foods by empowering farmers in the locality and promoting sustainable agricultural practices which in turn strengthens community resilience against hunger and malnutrition.

On this day, we reaffirm our collective responsibility to build a world where everyone has access to safe, nutritious, and sustainable food. By working hand in hand—farmers, communities, organizations, and governments — we can strengthen food systems, reduce hunger, and secure a healthier, more resilient future for us all.

Happy World Food Day

In times of crisis — conflict, displacement, or disaster — girls often bear the greatest burden. They face heightened risks of gender based violence, r**e, school dropout, health challenges and even death. Yet, in adversity, they continue to show courage and leadership.

“The Girl I Am, The Change I Lead: Girls on the Frontlines of Crisis,” reminds the world that girls are not meant to only be passive victims of circumstance; but active drivers of change in crisis situations as well as in normal life.

Empowering girls to be change drivers in humanitarian and fragile settings requires intentional actions like ensuring access to education, good healthcare, protection, digital inclusion, and leadership roles. When girls are equipped and trusted to lead, they strengthen their families, communities, and the world around them.

Investing in girls’ leadership is a strategy for sustainability. A community that equips its girls to lead is one that strengthens itself in the face of crisis and against crisis. The world must recognize the girl-child as a partner in its progress.

This year, as we mark the International Day of the Girl Child, we are reminded that investing in girls’ leadership is essential for building stronger and more resilient societies.

Happy International Day of the Girl Child!
