To those asking what this is,read through.
The drug commonly referred to as "Ice" (also known as Crystal M**h, is a highly addictive, potent, and illegal synthetic stimulant that severely affects the central nervous system.
The image below shows a person using a makeshift pipe, which is a common m**hod used to smoke this substance.
What is "Ice" and How is it Made?
Unlike plant-based drugs like cannabis or co***ne, Ice is entirely man-made (synthetic).
The Active Ingredient: Its chemical name is dextrom**hamphetamine.
How it is Manufactured: It is typically cooked in illegal, unregulated labs. Producers extract pseudoephedrine or ephedrine (active ingredients commonly found in over-the-counter cold and allergy medications) and chemically alter them.
Toxic Additives: To process the drug, manufacturers mix these precursor medicines with highly toxic, volatile, and corrosive chemicals. These often include:
Acetone (nail polish remover)
Lithium (from batteries)
Anhydrous ammonia (fertilizer)
Sulfuric acid or hydrochloric acid (drain cleaners)
Red phosphorus
Because these labs are illegal and completely unregulated, the resulting drug is highly impure and incredibly toxic to the human body.
The Effects of "Ice"
Ice forces the brain to release massive amounts of dopamine (the chemical responsible for feelings of pleasure and reward), far exceeding natural levels. This triggers an immediate, intense "rush," but it is followed by a devastating crash.
Short-Term Effects
Almost immediately after use, a person may experience:
Extreme euphoria and a surge of energy or alertness.
Rapid heart rate, elevated blood pressure, and dangerously high body temperature (hyperthermia), which can lead to stroke or heart attack.
Decreased appetite and severe insomnia (remaining awake for days at a time).
Erratic, irritable, or violent behavior.
Paranoia and anxiety.
Long-Term Effects
With repeated use, Ice rapidly damages both the brain and physical health, leading to:
Severe Addiction: The brain loses the ability to produce dopamine naturally, making it nearly impossible for the user to feel happiness without the drug.
"M**h Mouth": Rapid and severe tooth decay and gum disease, caused by the acidic chemicals in the drug, dry mouth, and teeth grinding.
Extreme Weight Loss: Severe malnutrition, giving users a hollowed-out, emaciated appearance.
Skin Sores: Users often experience tactile hallucinations, feeling like bugs are crawling under their skin ("m**h bugs"), leading to obsessive scratching that causes open, infected sores.
Psychosis: Chronic users frequently suffer from severe paranoia, auditory and visual hallucinations, and delusional thinking that can last for months or years even after stopping the drug.
Brain Damage: It physically alters the brain's structure, impairing memory, motor skills, and emotional regulation.
Important Note: Because of how rapidly "Ice" alters brain chemistry, addiction can happen after just one or two uses. Overdose is common and can easily be fatal due to heart failure, stroke, or brain seizure.
